Learn to love the skin you are in
May 15th, 2008 | By Rebbekah | Category: Shows
The Beautiful Women Project is a documentary challenging the traditional definition of beauty by showing the sum of a woman’s experiences is what truly has made her beautiful in her present moment.
Beautiful Women focuses on the life experiences of thirty-five woman of all ages, and what truly makes them beautiful in their present moment. They are the mothers, daughters, wives and neighbors you see every day – at school, at work, in the grocery store, in a doctor’s office waiting room, or walking through a mall. Through their stories women can realize that they are not alone in their insecurity and quest for self-acceptance. These women redefine the word “beauty” by showing us that what makes us beautiful is how we choose to face both the trivial and the monumental moments in our lives.
Nancy Bruno is an award-winning photographer and author of a new inspirational photography book, Beautiful Women: Celebrating Beauty in Stories and Stills (Bridgeway Books, January 2008). The book is an extension of The Beautiful Women Project, Bruno’s black-and-white photography exhibit that encourages women to embrace a healthier ideal of beauty. The project examines the lives of 35 everyday women of all ages, races and backgrounds and what makes them truly beautiful in the present moment.

Hi Nancy,
I’m so excited by your work on this project! I would be tickled to have the opportunity to participate in any way to support you in your work and spreading the message of self acceptance and self love. I’m a Body Image and Self Esteem expert, professional coach and Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnosis. Beyond that, I’m a woman and abuse survivor who has struggled for most of my life to gain self acceptance and to break the pattern of my emotional eating and self hatred.
As fate would have it, I discovered how to love myself when I made the decision to stop dieting, in favor of learning how to listen to my body’s intuitive wisdom. It was a long and hard road trying to accept my body. It took coming face to face with my own obsessions and addictions to realize how beautiful I really am and how flawed my self hating thoughts have been.
I had no idea of the impact of that decision to stop dieting and how it would influence my life. As The Juicy Woman, I teach women who are emotional eaters how to make peace with food and love the skin they’re in. As a professional coach, I have created a self esteem program for kids designed to boost self acceptance and self respect and build a strong self image. In September I’ll be presenting my Self Esteem Secrets and Mental Magic program to the entire school of 4, 5 and 6th graders in my local Elementary school.
I would just love to have a chance to speak with you and learn more about how I can support your project.
Warmest regards,
Andrea
