Pregnant on Prozac with Shoshanna Bennett

Shoshanna Bennett is back on with Heal Yourself Talk Radio for our Boston show.
The show was recorded on Friday April 17, 2009. Due to WBNW 1120 AM moving to a new station the past 3 shows are late in being added to Heal Yourself Talk Radio. I do apologize for this.
Shoshanna shares with us her own stories of dealing with Postpartum depression, what led her to help other women who deal with postpartum depression and how depression affects women of all ages before, during and after pregnancy.
Contrary to popular belief, pregnancy is not always an exciting, happy or glowing experience. Clinical depression affects 15-20% of pregnant women, sometimes hitting so hard that the moms-to-be attempt suicide. Listen in to today’s show with Shoshana Bennett Ph.D. author of PostPartum Depression for Dummies.
The new mother of eight in LA needs regular mental health assessment. Prenatal and postpartum depression is a hidden illness with potential grave consequences.
Many women are on life-saving anti-depressants before pregnancy and can’t afford to go off or other women develop a deep depression while pregnant and don’t know where to turn for relief as most doctors are uneducated about treatments during pregnancy.
Dr. Shoshana Bennett knows the struggles. She is the survivor of two life-threatening, undiagnosed postpartum depressions and the founder of Postpartum Assistance for Mothers. A pioneer in the often-ignored field of postpartum depression, Dr. Shosh is the author of the newly released Pregnant on Prozac, The Essential Guide to Making the Best Decision for You and Your Baby, a hard hitting look at the various treatment options available for pregnant women today. Many women panic and scramble for answers after learning they’re pregnant. This is the only book of its kind.
Shoshana Bennett, PhD, is also the author of Postpartum Depression for Dummies. A clinical psychologist, she founded Postpartum Assistance for Mothers in 1987 and has helped over 17,000 women recover from depression in pregnancy and postpartum. She has appeared on national radio and TV shows, including 20/20 and The Doctors. Dr. Shosh is interviewed regularly on radio and television and has been quoted in dozens of newspapers and magazines such as the The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Glamour, Psychology Today, New York Post, Self, Cosmopolitan, and the Chicago Tribune.

I have learned countless things along the way but here are just a few highlights I’d like to share.
- As a certified integral life coach, with a Professional Coaching Certification in Integral
Coaching through the International Coaching Federation, I have learned that once people
stop feeling overwhelmed they dramatically increase their capacity to create a more fulfilling
balanced life.- As a Director of Operations in an international business, I learned that the greatest way for my staff to grow in themselves was to give them the space, support and guidance to release
their own potential.- As a student, with a BA in Sociology and an MA in Education, I have learned that learning is a life-long adventure.
- As a volunteer life coach for Girls on the Run, a program that instills self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training, I have learned how much there is to learn from the children of the world.
- As a world traveler who has visited over 35 countries, I have learned that listening to yourself is the only true way not to get lost.
- As a practiced expatriate, who has worked and studied abroad, on five different continents, I learned how to expand my comfort zones, ground myself in unfamiliar lands and always expect the unexpected.
- As a vipassana meditation practitioner, I have learned the transforming effects of meditation on my daily life.
- As a Zhineng qigong and Tae Bo practitioner, I have learned the power of intention on healing and the inner strength that can come through outward movement.
- As a voracious reader currently writing my first book, I have learned that the only stories worth telling, or the lives worth living, are the authentic ones.
Introduction to despachos
March 8, 2009 by Rebbekah
Imagine the universe conspiring on your behalf to bring you more of everything you want… Greater success… Terrific relationships… Even improved access to valuable resources including money… That’s the amazing power of despachos!
Despachos are offerings that when complete are a “feast” made of dried fruits, grains and legumes, candy, flowers, even red and white wine or juice, and more.
The secret power of despachos is in the prayers. They are made with sets of leaves called qintu. You blow your prayers, or wishes, into leaves and put them in the despacho too.
When your despacho is finished, you burn it. This releases your prayers to the universe in an explosion of energy. Then the universe answers you with blessings and healing.
I interviewed Kerri from our Boston MA Flagstation WBNW 1120 AM on Friday March 27, 2009
I found that by focusing on what I wanted and praying that this kit helped me to really focus on what it was in my life I wanted to change. My mind wants to wander during prayer or meditation time, by using this kit it helped me to focus on my prayers.
“The primary goal of despachos is spiritual healing which supports spiritual growth and increasing enlightenment. In fact, the rainbow, which is a key element of nearly all despachos (represented by the rainbow yarn), in Andean culture represents Christ consciousness or spiritual enlightenment” Kerri Colegrove
Thank you Kerri for your wonderful interview and most of all for your compassion after the show and talking to me about many personal issues that I needed to get off my chest.

HELP the WILD Cats at Shambala Preserve with Tippi Hedren
March 6, 2009 by Rebbekah
Filed under Boston Shows, Shambala Preserve
The Roar Foundation, founded in 1983 by Tippi Hedren, exists solely to support the Shambala Preserve. Shambala Preserve is the Wildcat foundation set up to help save wild cats that were abandoned after “being domesticated”.
The preserve needs 1 million dollars a year to run, please help support Shambala.org by spreading the word, donating or becoming a member today!
“Our mission is to educate the public about the dangers of private ownership of exotic animals. Huge numbers of dangerous animals are bred and sold in the United States for illegal purposes. Private ownership presents a grave danger to the public and is cruel and unfair. More stringent legislation is needed to prohibit breeding and selling. We are actively involved on federal as well as state levels.”
“Shambala is home to more than 70 big cats: lions, tigers, cougars, black and spotted leopards, servals, bobcats, Asian leopard cats, a jungle cat, a lynx, and one very magnificent liger. All have come to the Preserve after confiscation by authorities such as California Fish and Game, the United States Department of Agriculture, the ASCPA, and various Humane Societies. They are from roadside zoos and private citizens who realize that they have purcahsed an animal that they can no longer handle.”

Thank you again for all your love and support.Meet Tippi Hedren and her animal preserve Shambala:
From Hitchcock and Chaplin to Ed Wood, Jr., and from drama and terror to droll comedy, the career of actress Tippi Hedren has been meteoric, and eclectic.
As volunteer International Relief Coordinator for “FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY”, she traveled worldwide to set up relief programs following earthquakes, hurricanes, famine and war. She aided “boat people” in the South China Sea from a “FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY” rescue ship. Lobbying efforts on behalf of Asian refugees have taken her before Congress and have earned her numerous awards including the “Humanitarian Award” presented to her by the B’hai Faith. She has been honored by the USO for entertaining troops in Vietnam and by the CELEBRITY OUTREACH FOUNDATION for her charitable work.
She began her long love affair with wild animals in 1969 while doing a film, Satan’s Harvest, in Africa. She “met” a mellow lion, and much of her life since then has been devoted to the big cats.
Deeply involved with international conservation groups to save wildlife, and an outspoken voice against cruelty to animals, both wild and domestic, she’s a board member of “The Wildlife Safari”, founded by her friend, Frank Hart, in Winston, Oregon. She also served on the board of “The Elsa Wild Animal Appeal” founded by her friend, the late Joy Adamson. And currently, she is on the Board of Directors of Earth Communications Office (ECO), and President of the newly-formed “American Sanctuary Association.” Her other charity work includes serving on The Board of Directors of The Women’s Council of KCET (Channel 28), The Minnesota Film Council, The American Heart Association, The March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis, International Orphans, Inc., and several AIDS causes. She has been honored with “The Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Annual Humane Award” (1995), the prestigious Founder’s Award from the American Society or the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (1996) and the “Lion and Lamb Award” from Wildhaven (1997) for her work on behalf of animal rights and conservation.
Perhaps Tippi Hedren’s most unique endeavor is being “den mother” and close friend to sixty-odd big cats - lion, tiger, leopard, cougar, and serval at The Roar Foundation’s Shambala Preserve near Acton, California.
The high desert animal preserve is home to the felines and pachyderms and was first established as an African-type set for the motion picture, Roar, which Tippi co-produced and starred in with her daughter, film actress Melanie Griffith. After the five year filming was completed, it became the current, non-profit center for big cat care and research.
In keeping with her outlook on the environment and conservation, many of Shambala’s residents are cast-offs from private owners, zoos and circuses. “They’re living out their lives in safety and comfort.” The Preserve is open to the public on a reservation basis. Tippi is founder and President of The Roar Foundation and resides at Shambala in a cottage surrounded by big cat compounds. “I awaken to their roars.” The story of Tippi’s life and the animals “dearest to her heart” was told in Simon & Schuster’s The Cats of Shambala (1985). An updated edition will soon be available in paperback.
Several documentaries have been produced about the Shambala Preserve including, Lions: Kings of the Serengeti by the Richard Diercks Co, Inc. which won the Telly Award in 1995 for outstanding video documentary; and Life With Big Cats (1998), produced for Animal Planet, which won the Genesis Award for best documentary in 1999.
Tippi continues to work frequently in motion pictures, theatre, episodic and cable television, and her contributions to world cinema have been honored with Life Achievement awards in France at The Beauvais Film Festival Cinemalia 1994, and in Spain by The Fundacion Municipal De Cine in 1995. In 1999, Tippi was honored as “Woman of Vision” by Women of Film and Video in Washington, D.C., and received the Presidential Medal for her work in film from Hofstra University. And in 2000, Tippi was honored as “Best Actress in a Comedy Short” in the film “Mulligans!” at the Method Fest, Independent Film Festival, and in 2002, Tippi won “best Actress” for the short film “Tea With Grandma” from the New York International Independent Film Festival.
The Roar Foundation, founded in 1983 by Tippi Hedren, exists solely to support the Shambala Preserve. Shambala Preserve is the Wildcat foundation set up to help save wild cats that were abandoned after “being domesticated”. Javetta went through a life that so many of us cannot even comprehend, yet despite everything she always believed in herself and her own strength. After living through years of abuse from family members and than a husband, Javetta left the only life she knew and took her kids far away and lived in the projects working 2-3 jobs to support her children. After years of struggling she was able to move her boys out of the projects, is going back to school studying law enforcement so that she can help other women and children break free from abuse.
While doing all this Javetta and her sons started an organization called Encouragement In The Trauma. Which you can find at http://www.encouragementinthetrauma.org
They help others by offering postcards, inspirations, music and skits done by the children to show hope and strength and encouragement to those who are going through what they escaped.
The strength, courage and bravery of this family is something everyone can learn from!
You can also listen to Javetta and the Boys on Blog Talk Radio each Friday from 3-5 am, they do the show during these times as Javetta explains-”When you are going through abuse sometimes the only way to get help is in the early morning…that is why we do our show so early in the morning…”

Being the Strong Man a Woman Wants
February 13, 2009 by Rebbekah
I hear it all the time from my male friends, “what do women want?” I must say as a woman I need a strong man in my life (I do my hubby is wonderful but as in all relationships there are times that are trying LOL) someone who takes a stand, makes decisions and takes part of the burden off of me! I don’t like having to make all the decisions even the small ones like “what’s for dinner, or were do you want to eat” or even the hard part having to pay the bills and be the mastermind behind which bills get paid now and which ones can wait till next payday without a late charge?
Being a mom to 3 boys, two who are autistic, and having my father in law live live with us not to mention running 3 of my own businesses and clients websites when it comes time for me to relax I don’t want to make all the decisions myself on how to run the family and our life. I want to have a man who participates, again my hubby is wonderful most of the time in that department. I hear it from my female friends both online and offline about how they are “strong woman” but don’t want to be the one who “wears the pants” in the family….I think if every woman really looked deep down in themselves they will all say the same thing, we like to feel protected, we like to feel loved and for us loving doesn’t just mean in the bedroom…love is having a man show us they love us by participating in our lives and taking control.
I know there are times I pick a fight with my husband just to get a response or to have him tell me “Hey enough, you are out of control” I need that once in awhile, now ladies if you are reading this I am only talking about myself, not generalizing every woman on earth.
Today’s interview with Elliott Katz was a very enlightening one for myself. I like when I can hear the “other side of the story” I don’t always know what my husband is thinking as I am sure he feels the same way I do about myself.
This interview is a must listen to interview if you are in any type of a relationship whether you are a male or female….below is more information about Elliott Katz’s book “Being the Strong Man A Woman Wants-Timeless wisdom on being a man”

“A souce of compassionate wisdom just at the time when it is needed most.”
Friday January 30, 2009 Dreamvisions 7 Radio and WBNW 1120 AM Boston Radio show
Void of Moon with author Denise Falcone
Women in the process of marital separation need help. Void of Moon, The Emotional Journey Through Marital Separation is based on the author’s personal journey and the expression of many women through this strange and unfamiliar time.
During our interview Denise and I talk about the emotions women go through even before they decide to file for divorce. I do want to stress here that Denise’s book can be used by anyone to better their relationship as well, while some people already know that divorce will happen I can see how Denise’s book would help out any relationship as you go through many different struggles and emotions along the way.
Denise also talks a little about using her book for such relationships as bosses, friends and co-workers as well since no matter what type of relationship you are having trouble with you go through the same emotions when you are trying to separate yourself from a bad situation.
I loved how Denise started out her book with how she lost it one day and started throwing dishes out her window, while we both don’t recommend letting your frustrations get this far it does help you to understand that Denise has indeed gone through the same emotions and frustrations we all feel during a tough time. I love it when I know that the people I am interviewing or reading their books or blog posts know exactly what I am going through because they have experienced it themselves, it is easier for me to relate to the knowledge that they know and for me to learn from them as well. I commend Denise for sharing her own feelings, frustrations and thoughts on what worked or didn’t work for her.
So I encourage you to listen to the show, feel free to post any comments below in the comments section and then go and purchase Denise’s Book “Void of Moon“.

Friday January 16, 2009-Dreamvisions 7 Radio and WBNW 1120 AM Show 1:00-2:00 pm est
I felt led to do a show this week on Female cancers. I was updating my Heal Yourself Magazine site with information on cancer for women and updating the videos and articles from Fran Drescher’s organization CancerSchmancer.org. While I was updating it I realized that much of the information about signs and symptoms I found I didn’t know myself and felt led to do a show on female cancers.
During the show Maureen from New Jersey called in to tell me about her cancer experience when she was pregnant. The story that Maureen shares is both a story of courage and strength and how she went through saving her baby who was born a healthy 9+ pounds and how now she is wanting to be a help to other women who are going through the same thing. Maureen wanted to me to post a website and organization that helped her through this time in her life Pregnant with Cancer Network.
“They provided me with someone who went through similar experiences that I was going through and my “buddy” was able to give me insight and information that only someone else who has/is experiencing what you are experiencing can do.”-Maureen
During the show I read an email sent from a listener who could not come on the show.
Towards the end of the show I give a list of symptoms to look out for from several different female cancers. Like I stated on the show, while many of the signs and symptoms may suggest cancer many times these symptoms also mean something else is going on. So I encourage you before you panic should you display any of the signs or symptoms to call your doctor for an appointment first.
For more information I posted some articles and cheat sheets on Heal Yourself Magazine

If you have cancer or you know someone who does and are looking for support I found a few websites online that I feel will be a good way for you to find a support group in your area, I have never been to these groups or websites and I am not being paid to write about the groups below. These are just a few of the many cancer support groups I found online and felt they needed to be posted on this page.
Article about finding a good cancer support group from About.com
There are many, many more cancer support groups across the nation and world. The best way to find a group in your local area is to do a google search with terms like “your city, cancer support groups” in the search box.

“Simply a Woman of Faith-How to Live in Spiritual Power and Transform Your Life” with author Pat Hastings.
Are you wondering where God is in your life?
Are you looking for God in your daily life, looking for miracles, looking for a sign that God is there for you?
Pat Hasting’s book is simply the best motivational and spiritual book I have read in a long time. Her stories of how finding things she needed at garage sales by asking God for help: for instance her husband was out of work and he had a job interview and needed a size 12D wing tip shoes-not a common yard sale item. God answered her prayers and she was able to find the shoes her husband needed to a job interview.
Her book is filled with so many inspirational and wonderful stories about miracles and how God does provide or lead you to where you need to go, it filled my heart with joy last night as I was reading and made me start to really think again where those “instincts” come from.

The Kindness Center’s mission is to promote kindness in schools, work environments, and relationships. Adopting a lifestyle of kindness is an extremely powerful method for personal growth.
Some people say that one person cannot make a difference! I don’t believe that. A case in point is Michael Chase the founder of The Kindness Center. Michael left a well established photography business to start his Kindness Center because he believed that our world needed more kindness in it and that our children the next generation to this world needed to be able to learn happiness, kindness and helping others.
Michael is a true inspiration. I truly enjoyed our hour together! But my words cannot do the interview or The Kindness Center justice so what better way for you to find out more than to listen to Michael’s interview and then listen to his demo from You Tube Below. To read more about his mission, what they are doing in schools all around the country and more go to his website at http://www.thekindnesscenter.com

Anna describes being shunned, from her own communities stand point. How she decided to leave the Amish lifestyle to pursue the life that she could only dream of…

The No Complaining Rule

On October 31 Jon Gordon author of The Energy Bus and The No Complaining Rule was on our WBNW 1120 AM Boston Radio show talking about his new book “The No Complaining Rule“.
Have you ever noticed how often you complain? I don’t mean the legit complaints that once you say them you can give an honest solution but the complaints that just fly out of your mouth that honestly didn’t need to happen?
Lately I had been surrounded by people who all they did was complain, and it started rubbing off on me…I hated how it made me feel, to be honest like I say on the interview at first I didn’t realize it had rubbbed off on me till an incident happened that made me stop and look back over the past 2-3 months.
Jon is very straight forward and down to earth and his book is written like a fiction book but is actually based on a real company.
About The No Complaining Rule
“It’s Tuesday morning and Hope walks into her office with puffy eyes, a swollen head and a broken heart. Unfortunately her company, EZ Tech, is in worse shape than she is. The fact that their computer batteries are catching on fire are the least of their problems. Employees have been posting negative comments about management on internet blogs for the world to see, the media is attacking the credibility of the company, morale is at an all time low, negativity is at an all time high and the stock price is falling faster than the Titanic. As head of Human Resources, Hope is charged with finding a solution to overcome the biggest challenge in her company’s history. In the process of battling her own adversity she discovers The No Complaining Rule and other positive ways to save her company and herself from ruin.”
In the spirit of his international best selling book, The Energy Bus, Jon Gordon once again shares an inspiring and enlightening story that reveals a powerful way to tackle the biggest problem in business and life today… negativity. It costs organizations billions of dollars and impacts the morale, productivity and health of individuals and teams. Based on an actual company that created and implemented The No Complaining Rule, Gordon delivers an engaging story filled with innovative ideas and practical strategies to develop positive leaders, organizations and teams. For managers, team leaders or anyone looking to turn negative energy into positive solutions, The No Complaining Rule shares powerful principles and an actionable plan to win the battle against individual and organizational negativity. When you implement The No Complaining Rule you’ll spend less time and energy on problems and more time focused on solutions.

I am proud to once again have Dyan Garris on Heal Yourself Talk Radio. Dyan has been very instrumental in many healing’s in my own life as well as the lives she has touched each time she has been on Heal Yourself Talk Radio.
Many people are reaching out to learn new ways to bring about healing in their lives not just physically but spiritually as well and one person who I highly recommend and myself look up to is Dyan Garris. Dyan is so full of knowledge in learning how to be a light to help others, in learning how to heal yourself and your mental attitude through Chakra healing.
In today’s show we talk a little about each different chakras, what they mean and how they each have an affect on our daily lives. I myself have a fear of going and following my dreams and Dyan opened up my eyes just by talking to me during the interview of how to let go of my fear and release it. Our minds will play tricks on us and it can lead us to not following our dreams. Dyan gives tips on how to overcome this fear and rebalance our mind to allow what is is we want to accomplish.
We also talk a little bit more about her other her other tools like her book “Cooking with the Angels” her Angel Cards “Voice of the Angels”.
Towards the end of the show Dyan and I talk about the negative impact of what we are reading and hearing in the media about our economy. Dyan and I talk about how we can combat this with manifesting what we want and how with The Law of Attraction we need more than to just “Think” to make something happen…we need to get how we think about money into the right perspective…
FEAR holds us back…how can we let it go…listen in to what Dyan has to say about this!
Dyan’s music can be heard nationally and internationally on numerous radio stations and was recently 1 on Music Choice’s “Soundscapes” cable TV channel. “Spiritus Sanctus Vol. 1 and “Release” were nominated for New Age Reporter Lifestyle Awards. For many years Dyan Garris has been counseling clients in order to help them move forward in their lives. She is clairvoyant, clairaudient, and clairsentient. In addition, Dyan is also what is known as a voice recognition psychic and trance channel. Throughout her career she has taught many people how to use the power of the energy contained in their chakras to unblock the energy field, and use the techniques of integrative healing to unlock their potential and transform themselves into the best they can be. In 2005 she bean creating a Spiritual Toolbox™ of integrated products for mulit-dimensional healing. This includes a CD series of music and meditation for self-healing, relaxation, Automatic Chakra Balance™ and vibrational attunement of mind, body, and spirit. There are now eight CDs in the series (all available separately) plus two radio version music-only compilations and two meditation-only compilations. The radio version music compilation “Spiritus Sanctus” Volume 2 was a 2006 NAR Lifestyle Award qualifier in two categories. “Release” is 11 tracks of instrumental relaxation music sprinkled lightly with the angelic vocals of award winning recording artist Amber Norgaard. “Eight” will be released in October, 2008 and is 12 tracks of music for ascension.
