Dr. Robert Moore is on Heal Yourself Talk Radio today talking about his Body of Knowledge program or BOK Systems. Are you tired of those fads diets to lose weight? Fad diets or pills to help you deal with illness, and wondering when you will start feeling better?
BOK systems is a break through in medicical technology and Dr. Robert Moore is here today to help us understand more about our bodies and how his system can help heal our minds, bodies and yes our spirits as well.
MORE ABOUT BOK

Body of Knowledge by Dr. Robert Moore
Body of Knowledge system was created with the sole purpose in mind for people to be able to manage their weight and overall health on their own. The BOK system is not a magic bullet or a fad diet but a sensible, sustainable program for weight management and promoting good health. The BOK system offers a realistic plan to help people make life-altering, life-affirming changes by utilizing nutrition, exercise and support.
Our mission is to provide information that gives you the ability to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle that adapts to change-one that naturally manages your weight, keeps you fit, promotes good health, and gives you a Body of Knowledge.
Most doctors share a common dream-to help cure those who are in need and to do something really special in their career. While I enjoy every facet of my medical and surgical practice, overall my professional sense of accomplishment has come from successfully helping people transform their lives through the Body of Knowledge system.
Body of Knowledge, or BOK (pronounced “Be Okay”), is the result of twenty years of study, research, and working with people who have come to me overweight, out of shape, and often despondent. I believe that my vision and expertise mirrors an emerging public demand for healthy lifestyle programs. I have found that most people prefer a blend of truth and essential information in an organized, facts-driven format over the gimmick-driven and “quick fix” weight loss plans of the past. This new enthusiasm could not have come at a better time. Serious health problems associated with weight gain in both adults and children are increasing across the nation. Even though there are more diet and fitness plans on the market than any time in history, there are more people considered obese and overweight than ever before (over half of our population).

Eddie Baran has been involved in fitness for almost thirty years. Growing up in San Diego, California, he was your classic skinny weakling but always had an interest in strength and exercise. As a young boy, tired of getting sand kicked in his face, Baran sent away for the Charles Atlas muscle building course and thus began his strength training. He then dabbled in lifting weights for a brief period then stopped. In his late teens, Baran rediscovered fitness as an endurance athlete, becoming a road cyclist typically logging in three to four hour rides each day.
He later resumed weight training, doing bodybuilding routines. Being this was the mid 1980’s, the age of big hair and big muscles, Baran hopped onto the bodybuilding bandwagon with reckless abandon and dived into weight training hoping to put some meat on his bones.Combat Conditioning and to this day continues study under the instruction of Furey. Making tremendous gains in strength and conditioning, so excited about how effectively bodyweight exercises built functional strength and conditioning that he decided to start training in gymnastics at the age of 35.The Secret Power of Handstand Training and The Primate Power Super Strength System, as well as contributed his expertise in Furey’s Gama Fitness course. He is on the advisory board on the Matt Furey Inner Circle membership website.Body Sculpting Bodyweight Exercises for Women specifically designed to give women an athletic and aesthetic body.
For the next decade, Baran continued on his bodybuilding quest, bulking up from a lean 155 pounds to a puffy, pumped-up, supplement-bloated 215 pounds. Although big, Baran was hardly strong and definitely not a conditioned athlete.
Realizing he was all fluff and no substance, and that bodybuilding was not about functional strength, Baran began training in Power Lifting, which eventually led him to the Olympic-style weightlifting. He admired the explosive real world strength, the timing and coordination, and the athleticism of this type of training.
In 1999 Baran met Matt Furey who further coached him in the Olympic Lifts. Furey’s nononsense approach to teaching was just what Baran needed to dramatically improve his lifting. Baran went on to compete in Olympic style weightlifting, but he hungered for more conditioned based strength routines.
Impressed with Matt Furey’s real world expertise of functional strength, Baran was the first ones to begin training with Furey’s
Along with Matt Furey, Baran co-authored
Baran continues to this day to study gymnastics and has coached the sport, specializing strength and conditioning. He now coaches only a select few clients. Having become disappointed with the state of women’s fitness, Eddie Baran is now focusing his efforts on improving strength and conditioning of women. In 2006, Baran developed a training program,
Baran is a refugee from California who fled north across the border to Portland, Oregon in order to escape economic and social oppression of his native homeland.

Caring for a dying loved one

The End-of-Life Handbook: A Compassionate Guide to Connecting with and Caring for a Dying Loved One. Dave Feldman is an assistant professor of counseling psychology at Santa Clara University and one of the authors; my co-author S. Andrew Lasher, Jr., MD, is director of palliative medicine at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
This show Rebekah White interviews Dave Feldman, Ph.D and Andrew Lasher, Jr., MD about their book The End of Life HandBook. Rebekah shares her own personal stories of dealing with the loss of her grandmother on Dec 2, 2007 and the month following her death as she was sick in the hospital and then moved to hospice.
“I wish I had this handbook when my grandmother was so ill in November of 2007, the compassion, the knowledge in the book and the medical terms that were used would have been so helpful in helping not only myself by the rest of the family deal with grandma’s health and situation.”-Rebekah White
“The End-of-Life Handbook illumines the opacity which cloaks life’s final chapter. Acknowledging the universal fear of the unknown, Feldman and Lasher light the trail which leads patients and families to reconciliation with life’s last challenge.”
- Walter M. Bortz, MD, Author of We Die too Long and Live too Short, and Living Longer for Dummies
More information about The End of Life Handbook:
Advanced technology has afforded people the opportunity to live with severe medical conditions for greater periods of time than ever in history. People may be told that they have a life-threatening disease a year or more in advance of passing away. A side effect of this reality is that patients and their families are facing unprecedented choices about how and where the death will occur. They often must choose between treatments that may extend life but cause significant side effects and hospice care that focuses on comfort but may mean foregoing other treatments. They confront endless medical opinions and receive little guidance in how to decide among them. Given such remarkably difficult choices, it’s not surprising that many family caregivers say that for them the grieving process begins before their loved one passes away.
The authors of The End-of-Life Handbook — a psychologist and a medical doctor — have attended the bedsides of countless patients, helping families navigate these difficult choices and the emotional turmoil that accompanies them. Their approach has been to offer practical advice, clearly explaining medical information, treatment options, and practical decisions that must be made; however, they feel it is equally important to stress the opportunities for hope, personal control, and loving family connection that exist right until the end. After such conversations, family members often ask them to recommend books to guide them. Now they have written the perfect one.
The End-of-Life Handbook, recently released from New Harbinger Publications, addresses a true balance of medical, practical, and emotional issues. Written in jargon-free language that is accessible to anyone, it helps families understand the complicated medical system, consider important care decisions, tackle practical issues such as wills and advanced directives, as well as cope with the emotional turmoil and daily stresses that often accompany chronic and life-threatening illness. It also features a foreword by noted palliative care physician Ira Byock, MD, author of Dying Well and The Four Things that Matter Most. Although the book tackles many emotional topics, it carefully avoids the “doom-and-gloom” trap. Instead, it emphasizes the opportunity for hope, inspiration, meaning, and human connection at the end of life.

Understanding Reiki
March 10, 2008 by Rebbekah
Filed under Family Health, Health, Reiki
With all the stresses brought by the modern world, it is only common to people to look for alternatives in relieving their stress. Aside from resulting to medications and other treatments that give the promise of comfort and relaxations, people are now resulting to ancient means of relieving stress such as Reiki.
The Japanese word “Reiki” refers to a unique technique that is used for reducing stress. Ultimately used to relieve aches brought by too much stress, Reiki is also used to aid relaxation and healing not only of the person’s physical body but his or her soul and spirit as well.
Administered by “laying on hands,” this technique for healing is believed to be effective through the use of an invisible force of life energy that flows in every living and breathing individual.
In the concept of Reiki, it is believed that when the level of a person’s life force energy is incredibly low, he or she will likely to be stressed out more often and have a higher tendency to get sick or ill compared to those people with high level of life energy force.
In Reiki, it is also proven that those people who are living healthy, stress-free and happy lives possess high level of life force energy which enable them to have positive outlook in life. These people also have greater capability to face the challenges of everyday living.
Developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Tendai Buddhist in the year 1922, Reiki has been a very popular form of relieving stress to people all over the world. Since its discovery, the technique Reiki has evolved in various forms and has been practiced by numerous Reiki masters across the globe.
Reiki as a means of healing
More and more people are into Reiki in the previous years because the technique has shown great and incredible results. For most people who have tried it, the treatment is a wonderful solution to relieving stress. This is because they don’t have to spend so much money in buying medication that can have grave side effects and they don’t also have to undergo through painful body exercises and unhealthy regimens.
Reiki is considered as a wonderful means of relaxation because it uses the innate warmth and energy in a person. This energy is then converted to a “purer” form of energy—free from the busy schedule and toxicities of modern living. People who have tried Reiki say that the technique does not only treat the person’s physical body but also alleviates the burden in emotions, lessens the clutter of the mind, and nourishes a deteriorated spirit.
When a person is free from all these physical and emotional burdens, he or she will benefit from a relaxed in almost all kinds of environment because the feelings of calmness and serenity are infused within his or her system.
Unlike other techniques for relaxation, Reiki is one of the most simple and all natural means of healing a person’s spirit. In fact, it is so safe that almost all people can make use of it. When used properly and trained religiously, Reiki can be an answer to all the health and emotional problems of people.
But, in order to make use of the Reiki properly, one must attend a class where the ability is transferred. Using “attunement” conducted by a Reiki master, one can easily learn to convert his or her innate energy into a healthy and beneficial use.
Here, the student is guided by the master in tapping the limitless source of energy and use it to improve his or her quality of life.

Life in Alignment-Balancing our Life through communication with our Total Selves
Deborah Martin author of Life in Alignment is here this week sharing with us how by balancing the physical spine, emotional spine and our spiritual spine we all can learn how to heal ourselves. Chiropractic care has long been thought of as a “foreign” practise…with Deborah’s enlightening book we find out otherwise. By aligning your entire body, your emotional well being, your physical well being (with chiropractic care) and your spiritual well being…you will have a life in alignment.
“For total healing, we must look at the total person. Each of us consists of three parts. First we all have a body, a physical form that most people identify with. Second, we all experience emotion, good and bad, so we have an emotional body too. Third, there’s an identity that is us, it consists of our thoughts, beliefs, reactions, and perceptions, and well call this our spiritual body….”-Deborah Martin from her book Life in Alignment
This is what Deborah’s book Life in Alignment is all about! Join us as we talk about how we deal with emotions good or bad and how those feelings in turn effect our physical well being.

Tips on Becoming A Healthier Eater

Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is. Being food smart isn’t about learning to calculate grams or fat, or about studying labels and counting calories.
Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day. Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.
Eating healthy requires quite a bit of leeway. You might eat too much or not enough, consume foods that are sometimes more or less nutritious. However, you should always fuel your body and your brain regularly with enough food to keep both your mind and body strong and alert.
A healthy eater is a good problem solver. Healthy eaters have learned to take care of themselves and their eating with sound judgement and making wise decisions. Healthy eaters are always aware of what they eat, and know the effect that it will have on their bodies.
When someone is unable to take control of their eating, they are also likely to get out of control with other aspects of life as well. They could end up spending too much, talking too much, even going to bed later and later.
So do you want to be a dieter all your life? Or do you want to learn how to be a healthy eater?
The choice is yours…
As with anything in life, eating can be an obsession. Whether you are obsessed with food and overeating or you are obsessed with losing weight and seeing food as the enemy.
Think back to years ago, look at the artists and how they viewed a woman. The sexy women were the ones with curves, the ones who had some “fat” on them!
You should always remember that restricting food in any way is always a bad thing. Healthy eating is a way of life, something that you can do to enhance your body or your lifestyle. If you’ve thought about making your life better, healthy eating is just the place to start. You’ll make life easier for yourself, those around you, and even your family.
Tips:
Eat more raw foods
Eat more vegetables
Eat more fruits
Cut back on sugars and adding extras to your drinks
MOVE-get up and exercise even if you just start out with a brisk walk each day
Don’t get discouraged
Write down your feelings when you want to eat. Are you depressed? Are you worried?
Join a group that focuses on healthy eating and a new lifestyle not just a group for weight loss.
As always when you make a change in your lifestyle please contact your doctor to be sure you are in good shape and ask him/her for advice on how you need to proceed for your own body type and goals.

Fish Sticks, Books, & Blue Jeans with Sami Fitzgerald

Sami with her mom Caryn Fitzgerald
What do you do when you cannot find the book you want in the bookstore because it does not exist? Most people would let it drop, but not 6 year old Sami FitzGerald….
A natural extrovert, Sami loves people, enjoys helping others and loves to learn. Being home-schooled, Sami has been blessed with the ability to attend seminars and events with her parents. While other kids where coloring or doing something to keep themselves occupied, Sami was paying attention. Without knowing it, she was learning from some incredible teachers, such as Jim Rohn, Bill Bartmann, Artemis Limpert and Jeff Crilley. Sami has taken this knowledge and incorporated it into her desire to help others.
At the age of 6, Sami created “Colors Decorate the World” to benefit the children of St. Jude’s Research Hospital. She asked friends and family to help by donating coloring books and crayons, and was pleased to learn that her endeavor lead to boxes upon boxes of art supplies arriving at St. Jude.
Sami’s lifelong promise is to make the world a better place.
It was this promise that sparked the search for a specific type of children’s book in early 2007. Sami made a simple request. She wanted a gratitude workbook much like the ones her parents use. However, a search of the internet and bookstores yielded no results. Not one to take no for an answer, Sami simply told her mother that they could create the book because she was sure other kids would want one as well. And with that, “Fish Sticks, Books and Blue Jeans - Teaching kids to be thankful for everything (yes, even fish sticks) everyday!” was created.
“Gratitude, the act of simply being thankful for the people and things we have in our lives is something every one should practice. Unfortunately, children miss out on this wonderful experience because they are focused on the things they feel they are lacking such as the new toy they see on the store shelf or the hottest fashion trends flashing across the television screen.” (an excerpt from “Fish Sticks, Books and Blue Jeans - Teaching kids to be thankful for everything (yes, even Fish Sticks) everyday!”)
Come meet Sami FitzGerald and learn first hand what Alexander J. Berardi, Bestselling author and host, CounterThink.TV was referring to when he said, “Everything I need to know about happiness, I learned from a six-year-old. Fish Sticks, Books, and Blue Jeans, is a subtle and inspiring reminder to us all: If the only prayer you ever said was, “thank you,” that would suffice.”
Note from Rebecca: Be sure to listen to the ending of the show, sometimes when we go off air interesting things happen, Caryn shared a story about Sami and intention….”from the mouths of children”….

Christie says, “I love the way it feels to be healthy and do it in a way that‘s holistic, without pushing my body and spirit to the breaking point. I feel balanced, energetic, happy, and at peace. I’ve lost 82 pounds and I am more alive than ever. But there was a time when it wasn’t so. There was a time when food ran my life. I was a compulsive overeater and hopeless. Even though I tried every diet under the sun, I felt powerless over the food. What I saw in the mirror was a reflection of my unhappiness and isolation. I felt lost. Then in blinding flash of the obvious, it became clear. I had literally let food abuse me. I decided it was time to take back my power and I sought guidance to do so. As I found my way back to health and wholeness I finally had hope again. My confidence and personal power grew. I learned more about holistic health, and healed and transformed my body. Now I am so excited about what I have discovered and created for myself, I just have to share it with you.”

Who hates diets as much as I do? Raise your hand.
This week Gillian Hood Grabrielson from Healthier Outcomes is back on as guest speaker and we talk about intuituve eating, how to learn when to eat, and getting back to the basics of knowing when you are really hungry.
Did you know that many people eat even when they are not hungry? And that by forcing kids to eat when they are not hungry but to eat when its a specific time can actually make them over eaters or not know how to listen to their hunger pains?
I learned a lot this week from Gillian, I hope you do too. Feel free to contact Gillian at her website www.healthieroutcomes.com with any questions.
