Worry Begets More Worry The job of worry is to anticipate possible perils, to come up with ways to deal with them, and to rehearse what you will do if the danger does arise. The dilemma is that once you start to worry about your shrinking 401K or if you’ll have a job next month, worry begets more worry, setting into motion a vicious cycle of frightening thoughts and anxious responses-worrywarting-out of control worrying. Worrywarts get stuck in identifying danger as they immerse themselves in the dread associated with the threat, spinning out an endless loop of scary situations, paralyzing themselves by blowing everything out of proportion. Don’t try to stop worrying, advises Dr. Beverly Potter, author of The Worrywart’s Companion -21 Ways to Soothe Yourself and Worry Smart, (McGraw Hill, September 2008). Worry itself, is not good or bad, she says. Everyone worries. Worrying is a survival skill because it helps us to identify and prepare for dangers. The problem is that once started, worrying is difficult to control. Allowed to continue unchecked, chronic worry can evolve into panic attacks and, in extreme cases, agoraphobia, which is a paralyzing fear of having a panic attack, especially in public. It can be so severe that, in the worst cases, the sufferer can’t leave home.

Tony Napoli-”Tony Nap” author of “My Father, My Don”-http://www.myfathermydon.com

Tony Napoli (”Tony Nap”) has had a checkered life as a soldier, a boxer, an enforcer, a casino boss, a fugitive, and a hustler. Born in 1935 in Brooklyn, NY as Anthony Napoli, he was raised by his mother, Grace and his father, James “Jimmy Nap” Napoli–a mob kingpin who ruled over the largest gambling empire in America for almost 40 years.

Tony grew up in Brooklyn, and after graduating from high school in 1955, at the advice of his father, joined the United State’s Air Force. He graduated from Air Police School in 1956 and was assigned to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) under General Curtis E. Lemay. His first assignment: escorting the general around the Far East on reconnaissance missions.

Describing his military experience in his autobiography, My Father, My Don: A Son’s Journey from Organized Crime to Sobriety, Napoli says, “I was also trained to go into enemy territory to free our captured servicemen from prison camps. I was trained to kill the enemy by choking him around his neck with a thin peace of wire–swiftly and silently so that I could remain unseen and unheard. The only real weapon I carried was a 12-inch bayonet. The streets of Brooklyn made me tough, but the U.S. government made me a killer.”

In the military, Napoli developed a reputation as an exceptional boxer, fighting on the U.S. Air Force boxing team in the tournament leading up to 1956 Olympics. General Lemay told Napoli, “That’s quite a  right hand you got there.” But his Olympic hopes and plans for military service were dashed by his father’s insistence. Napoli describes his disappointment in a chapter titled “The Road Not Taken.”

The road that he took featured a reckless and drunkard lifestyle. His father exiled him to Tucumcari, New Mexico after Tony had assaulted a corrupt New Jersey police captain. He returned to Brooklyn after learning that his mother had died, but sent back to New Mexico again after another violent exploit in a bar.

What an exciting trip! As I posted last week before I left town this has always been a dream of mine to do a LIVE in studio show for Heal Yourself Talk Radio and this past Friday I was able to. I can’t wait to post the show up on HYTR as of the time of this post I am waiting on the file to be sent from the station, so be on the look out for the link to the show later this week.

We left at 5 pm est on Wednesday night in our rental car and made it to New York state by 1 am est. However lol we didn’t realize we had stopped in NY state till the next morning Buffy and I actually thought we were still in Pennsylvania LOL that was how tired we were when we stopped.

The trip went smoothly we arrived just in time for the VIP party in Providence RI at Olive’s for those participating in the Discover You Expo.  I met many wonderful and fascinating people at the mixer and had a chance to finally meet in person Deborah Beavouis and Andrea Frase hosts from Dreamvisions 7 Radio network that Heal Yourself Talk Radio is a part of.

Many of you may not know what a clutz I am when I am nervous so I am going to open myself up for a few laughs LOL, I haven’t been to offline mixers or networking groups in a long time and with the mixture of nervousness and being in the car for 7 hrs prior to the mixer I was a ball of nerves. When I got to the mixer I was all calm but wouldn’t you know it when I went to sit down not only did I miss my chair and almost fall flat on my face but I managed to spill a portion of my glass of wine on my shirt.

After the mixer we left Olive’s to drive another hour and 45 minutes to Buffy’s sisters house where we would be staying. Linda thank you so much for your hospitality and letting us stay at your house it was like staying at home.

On Friday we woke up to a ton of rain!  With my naturally curly hair that is not something you want to happen especially when you are going to be having your photo taken, wouldn’t you know it my hair kinked up and in all the photos looked shorter than ever LOL. But all is not lost LOL I had such a great time doing Heal Yourself Talk Radio live in the studio and everyone made me feel like I had been there several times before.  Dave and Zach did a wonderful job of mixing and producing the show and I have to thank Dave for taking photos during the show. I can always count on one of these wonderful guys to make doing HYTR so very easy for me. Thanks guys for putting up with my ball of nerves before each show and for always being on top of everything! I couldn’t ask for better producers!

HYTR’s special guest speaker was Al Cole “Mr. Romance”. It was the first time I got to see the whole face of Al Cole LOL as his trademark is his wonderful blue eyes.  What a great time we had during the show talking about Romance Over 40, I got a little homesickness and started to talk about my husband who to his embarrasement I found out later he was listening, I shared a few stories and got a little teary eyed LOL

After the show Al took both myself and Buffy to this wonderful little restaurant near the studio were we spent a great two hours just talking.

On Saturday we woke up and went into Boston for a little site seeing, next time I go to Boston I want to walk the Freedom trail and get more photos but being on a rush schedule this time we were only able to hit a few spots like the North Church and see Paul Revere’s Statue.  On our way to the North Church we passed a memorial with dog tags that was started to honor all the men and women who were lost during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

We stopped for lunch at a wonderful little Italian restaurant and the food was awesome! I love authentic Italian food and the atmosphere was fun and relaxing.  I had great time shopping and finding souveniours for my family as well.

On Sunday we went to the Holistic and Wellness expo in Providence RI and was there for a couple hours.  The booths were exciting and feeling all the high energy in the event center was exciting. We met many people we would like to eventually have on Heal Yourself Talk Radio and gathered alot of wonderful information from the booths.  I have a couple that I truly believe will be a perfect fit for HYTR so be on the look out in the near future for some announcements from HYTR.

Before we left for our 12 1/2 hr trip back home, we met with Deborah Beavouis (owner of Dreamvisions 7 Radio network and host of Love by Intuition) and Andrea Frase (host of Sacred Bridging Healing Conversations).

I had a wonderful experience with a gong cleansing, I have never had such an experience before and I left with such a high vibration it was an experience I would love to be able to do again.  I need to go through all my information so I can publicily thank the owners who did this for me, once I do I will post it more here and will do another post all about my experience.

We pulled into our homes at 1:15 am est just in time for snow and ice storm it was a trip trying to keep my big van on the road but so wonderful to walk into my house to have my husband and boys still up waiting for me to walk in the door!

Well that is the trip in a nutshell thank you to everyone, I had a wonderful trip and thank you to Buffy who drove both ways due to my “fear” of driving LOL yep even I have things I fear

Can you tell I am shining with excitement! Anticipation! Nervousness, and pure joy!! LOL

I am sitting here in awe and wonder today as I look at my to do list before Buffy and I leave for Boston tomorrow, Wednesday April 1, 2009. Three years ago I put out an intention with the universe that I would do Heal Yourself Talk Radio in an authentic radio studio little did I know it would be in Boston Massachusetts!

I have a vision board in my office filled with sayings, quotes and other inspirations that I look at each day and the quote that hit me today was “Make it Happen!” all you have to do is believe in yourself, your abilities, and trust in God and the universe to provide you in the right time frame with what you want from life! It’s not always an easy road, road blocks may come in your life and make you stumble or feel you will never have what you so desire out of life. Don’t let that feeling last, feel it, let it go, and move on!  Many thanks to friends, family and supporters who have listened to me over the months when I was having those down days…or needed a shoulder for support! Without you there were times I was ready to give up…because of you all my dreams are coming true!

On Friday April 3, 2009 Buffy and I will be in studio in Boston, MA at WBNW 1120 AM interviewing CBS DJ Al Cole also known as “Mr. Romance”. We will be talking about Relationships after 40.

About Buffy Lauer

My name is Buffy Lauer and I am so excited to be joining Rebbekah White and Heal Yourself Talk Radio/Magazine. This past year I turned 40 and have had a tremendous opportunity for reflection, healing, and growth. Born and raised in the Toledo area, I had the privilege of being adopted into a wonderful family. Although there have been many years of understanding and working through my abandonment issues from my birth parents, I am truly grateful for the family I have been given and believe there are no mistakes-I am exactly where I am meant to be… Which also includes being a single mom to James (age 11) and Ellie (age 8).

When James was born dairy intolerant I chose to give up my “amazing” career as a Purchasing Manager. Although I knew this was the right choice for my son’s health, it came with a massive identity crisis. This was when my emotional breakdown and an array of health issues began… and little did I know this was the beginning of my soul search to find my true identity and quit living behind the smoke screens of the false ego my career and financial stature had given me.

Parenting did not come easy for me. I struggled from fertility issues to a multitude of endocrine issues which affected my emotional and physical well being. Two surgeries and 10 years later I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. There was so little being done to treat this disorder at the time that it took me 2 more years to find a doctor conducting research to take my case. Now, 4 years later, 75 pounds lighter, and lots of joy with-in, I am the healthy parent I’ve always longed to be.

I live an actively healthy lifestyle and my favorite sports include: wakeboarding, riding 4-wheelers, and snowmobiling. Growing-up, I had many great adventures of whitewater rafting and some mountain climbing which gave me a true passion for the great outdoors. My children have far surpassed my abilities on the wakeboard but it’s a great way to spend our day on the water as a family.

My mother became ill with Parkinson’s disease when I was nine so my father was my primary parent. He was an amazingly successful entrepreneur and raised me within the business. He taught me the ins and outs of running a business, along with balance of work, family, and fun. He also passed along his witty creative writing skills. I truly look forward to using all of these gifts to connect with you through the Heal Yourself Network.

For those of you who are not sure who Tippi Hedren is here is a little more information about her and her animal preserve Shambala:

Tippi Hedren Founder of Shambala

From Hitchcock and Chaplin to Ed Wood, Jr., and from drama and terror to droll comedy, the career of actress Tippi Hedren has been meteoric, and eclectic.

As volunteer International Relief Coordinator for “FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY”, she traveled worldwide to set up relief programs following earthquakes, hurricanes, famine and war. She aided “boat people” in the South China Sea from a “FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY” rescue ship. Lobbying efforts on behalf of Asian refugees have taken her before Congress and have earned her numerous awards including the “Humanitarian Award” presented to her by the B’hai Faith. She has been honored by the USO for entertaining troops in Vietnam and by the CELEBRITY OUTREACH FOUNDATION for her charitable work.

She began her long love affair with wild animals in 1969 while doing a film, Satan’s Harvest, in Africa. She “met” a mellow lion, and much of her life since then has been devoted to the big cats.

Deeply involved with international conservation groups to save wildlife, and an outspoken voice against cruelty to animals, both wild and domestic, she’s a board member of “The Wildlife Safari”, founded by her friend, Frank Hart, in Winston, Oregon. She also served on the board of “The Elsa Wild Animal Appeal” founded by her friend, the late Joy Adamson. And currently, she is on the Board of Directors of Earth Communications Office (ECO), and President of the newly-formed “American Sanctuary Association.”  Her other charity work includes serving on The Board of Directors of The Women’s Council of KCET (Channel 28), The Minnesota Film Council, The American Heart Association, The March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis, International Orphans, Inc., and several AIDS causes.  She has been honored with “The Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Annual Humane Award” (1995), the prestigious Founder’s Award from the American Society or the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (1996) and the “Lion and Lamb Award” from Wildhaven (1997) for her work on behalf of animal rights and conservation.

Perhaps Tippi Hedren’s most unique endeavor is being “den mother” and close friend to sixty-odd big cats - lion, tiger, leopard, cougar, and serval at The Roar Foundation’s Shambala Preserve near Acton, California.

The high desert animal preserve is home to the felines and pachyderms and was first established as an African-type set for the motion picture, Roar, which Tippi co-produced and starred in with her daughter, film actress Melanie Griffith. After the five year filming was completed, it became the current, non-profit center for big cat care and research.

In keeping with her outlook on the environment and conservation, many of Shambala’s residents are cast-offs from private owners, zoos and circuses. “They’re living out their lives in safety and comfort.” The Preserve is open to the public on a reservation basis. Tippi is founder and President of The Roar Foundation and resides at Shambala in a cottage surrounded by big cat compounds. “I awaken to their roars.” The story of Tippi’s life and the animals “dearest to her heart” was told in Simon & Schuster’s The Cats of Shambala (1985). An updated  edition will soon be available in paperback.

Several documentaries have been produced about the Shambala Preserve including, Lions: Kings of the Serengeti by the Richard Diercks Co, Inc. which won the Telly Award in 1995 for outstanding video documentary; and Life With Big Cats (1998), produced for Animal Planet, which won the Genesis Award for best documentary in 1999.

Tippi continues to work frequently in motion pictures, theatre, episodic and cable television, and her contributions to world cinema have been honored with Life Achievement awards in France at The Beauvais Film Festival Cinemalia 1994, and in Spain by The Fundacion Municipal De Cine in 1995.  In 1999, Tippi was honored as “Woman of Vision” by Women of Film and Video in Washington, D.C., and received the Presidential Medal for her work in film from Hofstra University.  And in 2000, Tippi was honored as “Best Actress in a Comedy Short” in the film “Mulligans!” at the Method Fest, Independent Film Festival, and in 2002, Tippi won “best Actress” for the short film “Tea With Grandma” from the New York International Independent Film Festival.

I was unable to call in as I was out of town but am so thrilled that they picked Heal Yourself Talk Radio to be one of the Top 50 Shows on Blog Talk Radio.

Wow it’s hard to believe that a new year is now almost upon us! It’s been a long time since I sent out a newsletter for Heal Yourself Network.  I have to apologize for that, there were some tough times with my health and just doing the day to day business and shows were exhausting but I am glad to say with the new medicines from my doctor and the wonderful support from family and friends I am feeling almost 100% better

Heal Yourself Talk Radio has been asked back for another 13 weeks in Boston, our next scheduled show is for Friday January 9th.  Due to the holidays falling where they are this year HYTR had to play two reruns the week of Christmas and this upcoming Friday for New Years, but don’t worry we have a FULL schedule lined up not only for the Boston radio show but also for our regular podcasts starting back up in January.

I see many new adventures in the upcoming year for HYTR, our sponsors, supporters and listeners!  2009 is going to be an awesome year!

A new year is upon us, what do you want in 2009? What are you going to do about it?  How are you going to be the change to those around you?

Wrapping up 2008….

2008 has been a hard year on many of us. From personal tragedy, to financial hardships to friendships gained and lost…just remember that each time you faced something unexpected there was something to learn from it.

I am not standing on a soapbox here, I have had a hard year and the hardest lesson took me almost 3 months to come to terms with.  I have a hard time with confrontations, not being up to par or rather not being who I think I should be.  Trying too hard to help everyone and forgetting to take care of myself.  In the end all it did was take me away from what I love the most my readers and listeners of Heal Yourself Talk Radio. I started HYTR so I could share all the wonderful resources I have found over the years and in return have gained many new friends, wonderful information from speakers and learned more about myself than I ever thought possible.

As we ring in the new year, let us look back at 2008 and see what we have learned, what we need to let go and at midnight on December 31 let it all go, as 2008 will now be our “past”.  It is great to learn from our past, but to dwell in our past will not help us move forward to become the best that we can become!
