Today’s show we have two time football hall of famer Vince Palko on the show talking about many different topics. From his gridiron exercises call The Super Body Blitz to how to tackle stress in the tough economy.
The interview was set up to talk about Vince’s wonderful Super Body Blitz Workout and to talk a little about his career as an ad toons artist, but it morphed into so much more! For that I am glad! You really get to now who Vince Palko is. I do suggest that you sign up for his newsletter found at http://www.vincepalko.com I receive it and love reading every newsletter he sends, this is not your ordinary newsletter, each one is packed full of Vince’s wit, charm and humour.
Vince had some wonderful tips on tackling stress for those who need a list like I do I am going to post them here:
#1 Get Moving-When you feel stressed or overwhelmed get up and get moving! Exercise, get your body moving. Vince calls the 3 E’s that happen when you do this step as Evaporate Stress, Energize the body, Enable you to see that you are still in control of you own life.
#2 Find a hobby that you enjoy, that you can get lost in, that will help you get lost in and forget your worries. We also touched on a little bit about taking your hobby and turning it into a profession.
#3 Set up the vision-see what it is you want and see it, visualize it, draw it, write about it, surround yourself with people and places that are what you want.
For instance Vince gives several instances in his life that he used as a kid in school to visualize him on the college pro line…when you read Vince’s bio below you will see he achieved that and much more…
So before I write about the whole interview I will stop and let you click on the player button and listen to this fascinating man and what he has accomplished in his life just by knowing who he wanted to be, know what he wanted to do, and had a plan and a vision.
This show is so much more than about his exercise program The Super Body Blitz, you have to listen to the show.

Mastering the Art of Living: “Improving Vs Changing”
April 5, 2008 by Nani
Filed under Education, Forgiveness, Health, Ho'oponopono, Personal Growth, Positive Thinking, Reducing Stress, Self Esteem, Self Help, Spirituality
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: (This applies to work, relationships and family)
Let’s examine the possibility of a simple attitude adjustment in how we look at improvement in living as the way to move forward rather than change. Why? Change implies bringing all the baggage of the past along. That means allowing for the “we cannot know what we do not know” we explored before in Ho’oponopono. This often includes letting go of “stuff”, such as the voices of your youth; of the you cannot do that; should not do that; are you kidding me”, and negative thoughts of others, that fill our psyche with negative energy. We end up fighting not just the desire to change but the voices that have haunted for years as to why we can’t. So change becomes an exhausting endeavor? And when humans are exhausted they are prone to give up and believe they have failed.
Thinking deeper; when you decide to select improvement in living you bring forward yourself and the “definite intent” of your being front and center. You leave the other “stuff” behind because all of us strive to improve and are happy when we do.
Defending this prognosis: Change has two responses either reactive or response.
First, reactive meaning looking for what’s wrong. Second ,response meaning looking for what’s right. See the difference! Subtle change, major shift towards moving forward with hope which now flows as a quiet stream as we move through our day.
Word to the wise: Make time for cherishing each other.
Hint: Knowledge is a result. Going backward is a result. Incomplete is a result. Begin every task with the “intent to finish”. Why? So you do not get caught in the circle of repeat.
These principles called mastering the art of living are aligned with the laws of attraction and the art of forgiveness called Ho’oponopono. “Attitude is everything, there is nothing else!” Nani

Getting Over Anger and Having More Joy in Your Life
February 12, 2008 by Rebbekah
Filed under Dealing with Emotions, Personal Growth, Reducing Stress, Self Care, Self Help
The worst possible thing you can do when you feel angry is to bury your feelings and never get back to them. These angry feelings can actually manifest as physical disease later on if not dealt with. I know getting over anger is very hard. I have been through some tough times in my life and have been used by family members, clients or friends and the feeling of anger and betrayal were hard to deal with. In the end all it did was make me sick and depressed and out of sorts.
I had to learned steps to help heal myself and know that you can take these same steps to alleviate anger in the moment and deal with it wisely.
First of all, when you feel yourself getting angry at something that has been said to you, stop and breathe deeply seven times. This practice will help center you so you can think with clarity and focus. No one who gets angry and worries can see clearly. The mind becomes blurred with rage.
Develop an armadillo’s back when it comes to criticism. Many people are over sensitive to criticism, so if you’ve had difficulty with this area, you’re not alone. Oversensitivity to criticism holds you back in life, so developing a stronger foundation is imperative. I know I used to be oversensitive and again it was something I had to learn to deal with and know that those who were trying to help were not trying to hurt me, once I learned that life was much easier.
Folks who have done great things have performed their work in their own individual way, totally unconscious of other’s opinions. They weren’t affected by flattery or barbs. These people were guided by their own conscience and passion in life.
Honestly, for the most part, you should be better able to judge yourself than anyone else. Others can’t really know your temperament or your mind. So decide that your opinion counts more than others’ and let go of that nagging feeling that you need to have everyone approve of who you are and what you do.
Another issue that tends to provoke anger is if we feel overlooked or under praised. To take control of this area in life, decide not to care one whit about another’s praise of you or your performance. Bottom line - you are capable of praising yourself and deciding whether you have accomplished all you should.
Finally, you can proactively deal with the tendency to anger by stopping the habit of complaining. This can take a few months, but is worth the benefits. By not complaining, you put yourself in a better place to focus on your passion in life.
All these steps will help you learn to deal with anger and help you in the right direction of getting over anger. If you are like me though it has taken years for this to take an effect on your life; so give yourself time to change your mind-set.
Feeling angry all the time didn’t happen overnight just like learning to deal with your anger won’t happen overnight. Give yourself some slack, just be more aware of why you are really angry and write it down to get it off your chest and help you be better able to move on with your life and have more peace and joy daily.

It’s great to be self-sufficient, isn’t it?
Not if it’s costing you your sanity!
Many of us can’t ask for help, do everything all by ourselves, can’t delegate because no one else can do it as well and we’re headed for burnout or worse!!!
Are you constantly trying to “do it all”, all by yourself?
Do you avoid delegating work because you don’t trust others to “do it right”?
Are you afraid you’ll look weak if you ask someone for help?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could be suffering from Self-Sufficiency Syndrome-and you might be heading for a major burnout.

Nani Aki Linder carries many titles. She is a national speaker on behalf of global issues. She is a published author. She is a teacher. She is a mentor. She is a spiritual advisor. And all of these tie together under the simple heading of “educator.”
Nani shares with us the ancient art of forgiveness called Ho’oponopono, the process of forgiveness, and how attitude is everything.
“We choose our words, words are very powerful…you can choose to be happy, you can choose to be poor, you can choose to have peace in your family.”
Ho’oponopono teaches us how to let go, release our fears and the parts of our subconscious that is holding us back.
One thing that Nani said during the interview that really hit home to me was how she greets each day as a new day and that the day ends at midnight…so it is now the past, you have been given a gift-respect, trust and forgiveness are all in our power to do each and everyday!
We have all heard about “The Secret” and how people are starting to teach Ho’oponopono in sound bite fashion….hear what Nani feels is missing in the teachings of “The Secret” and how that little piece may be what is holding you back from your true happiness.
As always Nani is full of wisdom, I invite you to listen to this show and post your thoughts, questions and comments.
Did you enjoy this show or any other show we have done on Blog Talk Radio I invite you to to go our site there and vote for HYTR.

December 27, 2007 by Rebbekah
Filed under New Year's Resolutions, Reducing Stress, Self Esteem
As I was sitting at my kitchen table this morning, I glanced up and saw the calendar. It hit me like a ton of bricks…in less then 5 days it will be 2008. Now I know that it shouldn’t have come as a big surprise I mean Christmas was just this week, but it did hit me totally by surprise!
I sat there thinking what new year resolutions can I make…I took a long hard look at the past year. Not just for business, in fact I am not going to even post what my business goals are but more my personal goals for myself.
I am not going to post “I need to lose weight and get back into shape” that is a given lol…I decided I really needed to take this time to take a good long look at my life and the way things have changed over the past year.
This year I have been struggling with many feelings. Feelings of helplessness as I watched my grandmother in the hospital getting weaker and weaker, feelings of anger as I see how one person in our life can not only make me crazy and feel totally out of control but watch as this one person makes my own kids and hubby feel worthless. I am not one to hold grudges, or feelings of hate…but this year I have had those times where I just couldn’t stand to look at someone…this person who has totally changed our world, totally lives for their selves and their selves only, watched as this person destroyed our family and watched as control was taken away and how we (hubby and I) gave our control away…not meaning too but in the sense of wanting to help a family member, instead of actually helping him we only enabled him to continue being abusive not only to me but the rest of my family as well.
Last night I watched as he took an item that my MIL bought for me the last Christmas she was alive and give it to his daughter because she wanted it and her mother bought it…but it was mine! I used to just sit there and let my FIL do whatever he wanted to do, but this past year I have seen by letting him get away with this stuff because I hate conflict it did nothing to stop the behavior it only increased it. In the end I got my items back but the whole situation was a fight, he tried to tell me I was lying, etc etc and that he had the right to give away anything he pleased…I had to remind him that not everything in this house is his….it is now our house…yes, there are items in this house that are his but not everything that is sitting around here is his to give away. I had just told my SIL that those Gingerbread people were mine (she was admiring them..) and that Mom had given those to me the Christmas before she died. She then proceeded to go to dad and tell him he wanted them. My son came running to me and said that she was bagging them up…
The whole situation was heart breaking and made me feel like once again, I had no control over my life.
Why did I tell you this whole story, I am sure you are all wondering why in the world????
Well last night’s situation really hit home to me this morning when I realized that I wanted to write down some real New Year’s resolutions so here goes….
1. Take control over my life once again
2. Don’t allow others to walk all over myself or my family
3. Not be afraid to speak up in situations
4. Stop letting family members walk all over my family in the “name of respect”-respect needs to be earned too-here I mean I am worth being respected, just because someone is older then me (from the “I am your elder, you will do what I say” generation) does not mean I need to give them respect if they do not respect me.
5. Don’t run from confrontations
6. TAKE Back CONTROl-this is my life, my family, my kids and my house-I will not allow others to tell me how to run our life and I will not allow myself to be negative all the time.
7. Try to let go feelings of anger. This one is a hard one for me, I woke up this morning sick to my stomach, knots in my stomach, pain….why? Because I kept thinking about how much my life is not the way I want it to be…I allow one person to ruin my day! I will not allow anyone to ruin my day, whatever happens it is their problem and they can learn to deal with it.
8. Learn to let go-this one is a very hard one for me! I can brew about a situation till I am blue in the face or until my hubby yells at me (lol) that he is sick of hearing about it…not because I like brewing but I am scared to confront the people who are making me feel this way.
This one will not be an easy one for me, as anyone who knows me well will tell you I HATE confrontations and I tend to feel I am not “worthy” of speaking my thoughts or I am scared of others and what they think….and I don’t like to “rock the boat” but what good is that going to do.
I tell my kids to stand up to bullies and they will run but what do I do with the biggest bully in our lives? I let him do whatever he wants and say whatever he wants to me because I hate confrontations and I am afraid to speak my mind and tell it like I see it.
Not anymore!
So the short end of this post, my new year’s resolution is to gain control back in my life, and not allow others to control how I am feeling that day.
So what are your resolutions?
I don’t mean lose weight, stop smoking etc etc, what is it in your life you really want to change?
Post it here, and let me know

September 1, 2007 by Rebbekah

Practicing focused breathing exercises can help you relax and relieve the tension you’ve built up during the day. Our everyday lives tend to weigh on use, causing us to be in a constant state of arousal, even if we have nothing to be excited about. This can cause emotional problems including irritability, anger, and depression along with physical symptoms like headaches and stomachaches. Relaxation breathing can relieve these symptoms. These methods can also be used to calm yourself before you go to sleep. This way you get more of a better quality sleep that leaves you feeling rested and rejuvenated.
The first step is to find a good position to be in for your breathing exercise. Many techniques will suggest different positions including: the prone position (on your stomach), lying on your back, sitting cross legged, sitting on your feet with your knees facing forward, or standing. No matter what the method suggests, you need to be in a position that makes you comfortable. If you’re not comfortable, you’re not going to relax no matter how you breathe. So find something that works for you. You may also try periodically changing positions throughout your breathing exercises; in fact, some techniques recommend it.
The next step is to use proper breathing technique. Naturally, we tend to take short shallow breaths. Breathing exercises involve taking longer, deeper, fuller breaths. This type of breathing changes the percentage of carbon dioxide in our systems, putting us in a more relaxed state. To accomplish this type of breathing, you should be sure to breathe by pulling your stomach in and out (toward and away from your spine). You should also make sure your shoulders stay relaxed; if the shoulders are moving up and down, your breathing is too shallow. An appropriate deep breath should bring out the stomach, chest, and collar bone.
The appropriate deep breath is very slow. It’s best to allow about 5 to 6 seconds for each inhale and the same for each exhale; however, it’s more important for you to focus on your technique rather than your pace. Breathe in deeply through your nose, and exhale though your mouth. A common yoga technique is to tighten your throat when you exhale so it sounds as if you’re whispering.
Do your best to focus your attention on the breathing. The point of breathing exercises is to clear your mind of stress, not give you a better opportunity to focus on it. You’ll probably find your thoughts wandering; just try to bring your mind back to the breathing when you do. As you have more and more experience, you’ll begin to find it easier to focus on your breathing and relaxation rather than the hassles of everyday life.
You may also find it helpful to practice visualization exercises while you’re breathing deeply. Picture each muscle in your body and focus on it feeling relaxed. Once that part of your body is relaxed, you can move on to another part. You may also choose to focus on the stress physically pouring out of your body through your fingers and toes.
Whatever method you use, deep breathing is a great way to get to sleep or simply unwind at the end of a long day.
