In the beginning, my desire was to create visual images that would inspire and encourage me to heal ~ spirit, mind and body. In order to create these encouraging images, I would look inward and honestly examine the dark areas of my life that needed to receive encouragement. This is sometimes difficult to do because it is not always easy to be honest with ourself. So to accomplish this challenging task, I created a safe space of observation. This safe space of observation is created when we promise to look inward with only kindness and compassion, not allowing criticism or judgmental to play a part of the process. Once in this space, I would ask myself questions like – What is wrong? What do I need to change about myself
in order to live a happier and healthier life?As different problems would become clear to me, I would review what I had learned in my spiritual studies to find the answer to that problem and those answers were what I painted.

As I went through this process of self examination over the years, I one day realized something that would change my life forever. I realized that the creative process was teaching me how to love myself. The way in which it did this was that it created a setting and a reason: to look inward, to slow down, to be patient with myself, to be kind to myself, to look for answers, to help myself, to forgive myself, to stop judging myself as bad, to examine my choices, to look at my behavior, to question where my believes come from, to take responsibility for my happiness and wellness, to make time for myself, to encourage myself, to consider my thoughts as valuable, to consider my life as valuable, to know myself, to understand myself
and to allow myself a voice. Everything that self-love is, the creative process was teaching me at least within the parameters of creating art. When I made this discovery, I was so excited. I could finally see that self-love was attainable. I could feel it and I could recognize what it was. Now, it was only a matter of expanding this self-love to the rest of my life.

To accomplish this task of expanding self-love further into my life, I continued to do more of the same. I looked inward, I asked myself questions, I examined life, I examined love and I examined myself. Through this exploration I can say that I have truly found the meaning and experience of unconditional self love.
