Bea & Mike Kunz

I love teas, and spices in fact I grow my own during the summer months.  Hence I say summer, any plant that comes into my house during the winter months never survive! So it was a wonderful pleasure to be able to try out Sage Hill Farms Be Well tea and their Italian Blend spices this past week.

I have slowly been going to using more organic products since I started to have more problems with my Lupus the past three months.  I have found that by using more organic products the symptoms are less so I was thrilled when I saw that the teas and spices that are grown on Sage Hill Farms are organically grown. Of course organically grown foods are better for us, but by our foods being grown organically-no pesticides etc-it is better for our planet as well.

The color for the Be Well tea was so pretty, now this may sound weird to those who are so used to drinking teas bought in a box at the store, but the Be Well tea turns a very pretty dark pink after brewing.  The taste was out of this world.  With a touch of honey and a nice warm blanket I savored this tea by our wood stove in our living room and was amazed at the difference having a cup of tea that was not purchased in a box at the grocery store.  The smell coming from my cup wrapped me in more warmth and made me remember having tea with my grandmother. When I was younger my grandma would make me a cup of tea and give me a warm blanket and have me lay down on her couch…have you ever heard that smells bring back memories…I was very happily surprised when this memory came back to me while drinking the Be Well tea.

Now it was time to check out the Italian Blend Spices. The oregano, thyme, basil, and garlic zest flooded my sense with thoughts of a small Italian restaurant.  I added the spices to a jar of organic spaughetti sauce and got rave reviews from my two picky boys :) It was a hit!

I cannot wait to try the Italian blend on our homemade pizza next week….

I highly recommend Sage Hill Farms not only for their wonderful teas, and spices but their owner Bea Kunz is one of the best ladies I have met on line and is also a contributing writer right here on Heal Yourself Magazine, I look forward to learning more about using herbs in our daily life to enrich our souls and better our health.

Money Talk in Marriage

Given the current economy, many of you already know it is taking its toll in various forms on households – job loss, kids are being taken out of daycare because it costs too much and it is causing stress in the marriage. Yes, I said it more STRESS. When financial challenges and issues surface a couple of things can happen:
a) Blame game – one blames the other for the financial issues in the household
b) Second job – primary “breadwinner” gets a second job if they do not have a part-time business
c) Avoidance – it is not discussed at all.

Money Talk in Marriage

Personally, I believe the husband and wife should come together and make some hard choices. Let’s just say for example the husband has lost his job and have not gotten employment and you want to make sure everything is covered. What do you do? I recommend you take a look at your complete financial picture and see if it fits in these parameters:
a) No more than 36% of your monthly income should go towards debt
b) 10% of your monthly income should go towards savings or emergency fund
c) 15% to 20% should go towards groceries

If those numbers are out of bounds, be honest and see where you can reduce expenditures. I know for us one of the area that we would reduce is groceries because we probably are higher because my husband has always liked to out to restaurants. I would cut back on that and put more groceries in the house.

Understand it is tough when a man loses a job because it affects them even greater. As you are talking about the household finances it is not necessary to point the finger but be solution oriented. Money should not become bigger than your marriage. When you stood at the altar, you said “For richer or for poorer.” Believe me there will be seasons of plenty in a marriage and seasons of tightness. You are not alone. Talk about money throughout the life of your marriage not just when a problem arise.

Prosperity Consciousness or Bargain Consciousness?

November 24, 2008 by Rebbekah

by Marilyn Jenett-Copyright 2008

Just recently, A very good question was posted on the Feel Free to Prosper Network.

I thought this was an excellent subject to share with you as I have no doubt that with the current climate that has most people concerned, this subject is probably on the minds of many who desire to maintain a prosperity consciousness when outer appearances suggest the opposite.

The Question:

“I consider myself a good shopper: use coupons, wait for sales, buy generic, etc. But are these smart shopper “actions” sending a bad signal to my subconscious? After all, the message I want to send is “I can afford anything (at any price).” How about it, do we have to be as careful with our actions as we are with our words?”

My Answer:

Here are my thoughts relating to prosperity consciousness vs. bargain consciousness…

On the subject of sales and bargains, there is something magical that happens when you acquire a prosperity mindset.

Have I ever mentioned to you that one of the great perks of acquiring a prosperity consciousness is that savings and discounts of all kinds will follow YOU on the path. When we are connected to our Universal Source, suddenly it seems like the Universe becomes your personal shopper whose goal is to provide you with the best for your needs at the very best price. You no longer have to shop to seek the best prices - no comparison shopping, no bargain hunting. Discounts and savings seek you and appear before you magically as if you are the elite member of a private wholesale club. Except that the savings you attract are often far below wholesale!

This is not to be confused with a kind of “bargain” thinking that is based on lack and the consciousness and fear of not having enough. The spontaneous manifesting of savings - the real bargains - come when we accept prosperity as natural to us and know that the Universe is providing for all our needs. It’s a joyful experience. We really do feel guided. We attract bargains at the highest possible level. We are spontaneously led to the right place at the right time.

I recall a couple of my many experiences over the years of being guided specially in this way to ‘Universal’ size bargains. :-)

I have always loved beautiful and very fine quality handbags. I also love touches of leopard in my wardrobe and accessories (not real fur, of course).

Well, one year I walked into Nordstrom’s and found an absolutely gorgeous black leather and leopard handbag. It was extremely expensive looking, but I didn’t recognize the designer name. The attached tag showed the price of $135 - not at all unreasonable for such a beautiful bag. I had to have it. It was the only one in the department. I gave it to the saleswoman and she looked at the tag and told me she couldn’t sell it to me. She said this designer’s bags sold for at least $500-600 and this had to be mislabeled. Although the label was attached, she refused to sell it to me. She believed she was justified. The manager wouldn’t be in until the next day. We arranged for the saleswoman to put the bag on hold and have the manager call me that next day to give me the correct price.

The next day, the department manager called me, told me the bag was $600 or so, but that since there was an attached tag that read $135, she told me that by law (or store policy, I don’t remember which), she had to sell me the bag for the displayed price. She told me to come pick up my bag for $135. :-)

I still have that beautiful bag after many years and it still looks brand new. I have found that expensive bags do seem to stay new looking for years.

Another year I found an elegant Donna Karan Couture clutch handbag in a department store. It was $900 - way beyond the price I would choose to spend. But I had a “hunch” to ask the saleswoman if the bag might go on sale at some point. For some unknown reason, she looked over the bag very carefully and found an imperceptible teeny flaw hidden in a fold that no one would ever see. I certainly would not have found it. But she said that since it had that teeny flaw, she would be able to sell it to me at half price! Now remember, I never asked for this. She offered. Another beautiful bag I still have that receives many compliments.

One of my most striking experiences happened when I acquired a complete collection of Villory & Boch dinnerware a couple of years ago. I didn’t set out to buy a collection - I thought I would buy a few place settings of the gorgeous Plantation and Tropical Switch Collection, which I saw were on sale in the department catalogue that came in the mail. Well, when I called to order, the store didn’t have any. By “coincidence,” I found out that that particular pattern had just been discontinued. Without ever leaving my telephone, I was able to manifest the entire collection from various Bloomingdale’s and Villory & Boch stores around the nation. The retail cost of the whole collection: $7,000. The price I paid for everything: Under $1,500!! That included not only all the dinnerware (10 settings) and accent pieces and accessories, but all the bakeware and three different styles of flatware. And a few extra duplicate pieces I use as planters.

A couple of years ago I was shopping for some specific sleepwear items. I didn’t intend to buy anything else. But I was irresistibly drawn to the sale rack. On that rack were two Ralph Lauren pieces - top and bottom - in my favorite shade of red. They were the only two pieces, both my size and fit perfectly. They were marked down half price - $19.50 each - but I loved the outfit so much I would have paid full price. When the items were rung up at the register, the saleswoman informed me that they scanned at $6.52 each!!!!

I won’t get into the long details, but a major coup was when the Universe literally handed me my beautiful new car a few years ago - a Mercury Grand Marquis in ‘toreador’ red - and I was able to purchase it new for about $10,000 less than retail. I am the kind of person who needs a roomy, quiet, cushy, cruising ride - no sexy road cars for me. I love my car - I feel like I’m driving a mattress.

Do I look for bargains? No. Do I love a bargain? Yes!
And I want you to know that this prosperity principle works the same way for our business as well as personal life - and for everyday items - everything - not just for luxury items.

The Universe is my personal shopper :-)

Create the Foundation of a Fit, Healthy Body from Within

The Feel Free to Prosper Program was created by Marilyn Jenett and I was priviledged to be a participant of this program over a year ago and still today I follow Marilyn’s teachings for changing your mind-set, you can read my testimonial below.  The wording below is part taken from her website Feel Free to Prosper, to read more about the program please go to the Feel Free to Prosper site for all the details.

The Feel Free to Prosper I Create My Body Program is a unique lesson and mentoring experience that is based on a mental technique for losing weight that I discovered many years ago from a great New Thought teacher. I have used the technique over the years to maintain my own weight.

In 2005, I decided to conduct a formal test of the technique with a group of volunteer participants to prove the effectiveness of this method, which had not been revealed to the mainstream, for the purpose of potentially offering it as a Feel Free to Prosper program. Before I endorse a principle or technique to the public, I want to see enough results from the general public to support it.

The resulting testimonials from that “body prosperity challenge” showed me the value of the technique and this was supported by the results that continued to flow in from this program, which I subsequently created. You’ll find many of the testimonials below. I now offer YOU the opportunity to lose weight in a natural, effortless way – by gently shifting the subconscious dominant thought. You will no longer think of yourself as having to “lose weight.”

You are not required to change anything that you are doing at this time.  You are to merely apply the principles as instructed and let your subconscious mind do the rest. Any changes in your habits or routine would be inspired from the inside out…naturally…not from any will power or forced action. You can use the technique along with anything else you are currently doing with respect to your weight.

When I first approached Marilyn about her I Create My Body Program I was overweight and depressed. It was coming into summer and I so dreaded getting into that swimsuit for our annual 4th of July family get together. I had no motivation, didn’t even want to pop in another exercise video and try to lose the 15 pounds I wanted to lose in order to feel good for that gathering.

I signed up for Marilyn’s class and within a few days had talked my hubby into getting me a bike so that I could get off my chair and get moving. Marilyn suggested I do something I really love…I love to bike ride but had been putting off getting a new one for ages…well, with Marilyn’s suggestion I went out and got one.

Not only was I seeing a change in my body as the weeks went by but also a change in my hubby’s attention, the self confidence I was gaining back, and the way I felt after bike riding.

During that first month and a half I lost 10 pounds just by changing the way I thought about losing weight thanks to Marilyn’s program and support.

If you have struggled with the “not another diet program” blues, then this program is for YOU! It is not another one of those dreaded diets that make you feel like you are depriving yourself. This is a total body makeover from the inside out!

Thank you Marilyn

Looking Your Best

November 21, 2008 by Rebbekah

As busy moms sometimes we don’t always feel we have enough time in the day to look our best!  This may be true, but you can look GREAT in just a few minutes each day.   Just like wearing your favorite outfit, you’ll feel good when you take a little time just for YOU!
First, to keep your skin healthy, make sure you’re using a good skin care system.  Most soap isn’t formulated for our face and can strip the natural oils and cause more harm than good.  Make sure to find the right system for your skin type; are you dry, oily, combination, acne prone?  A skin care system should include at least a facial cleanser and moisturizer.  In just a few minutes each morning and evening you can cleanse and moisturizer your face in seconds.
Tips: Remember a little goes a long way. A good rule of thumb after applying moisturizer is to wait a few minutes and if you feel you need more moisture apply another lay.  Be careful not to over moisturizer or you may tend to get shine later in the day.  You can over moisture!
The three essential MUST HAVES:  foundation, mascara and lipstick or gloss.

Foundation: After cleansing and moisturizing apply a foundation that matches your skin tone as well as your neck.  Blend well with a damp sponge or a foundation brush.  If you find your foundation doesn’t blend well you may need more moisture.

Tips: More is not always better.  It’s best to apply a little and then add more if needed.

Mascara: Find mascara that fits your needs.  You may want to add length or thickness.  There are many formulates to choose from to give you the look you want.

Tips: To open up your eyes, curl your lashes first before applying mascara.  When it comes to one coat mascara, that’s what it means.  If you apply more than one coat your lashes may look clumpy and unnatural.  Be sure to clean off the mascara wand before applying if you want to apply more than one coat.  And remember, bacteria can grow on your mascara wand, so it’s important to replace your mascara every 3 months.

Lipstick/Gloss: You’ll want to find a lipstick that matches your skin tone; ivory, beige, bronze.  If you’re not sure a lighter shade lipstick is always best.

Tips: Pamper your lips like you do your face.  You’ll want to exfoliate your lips a few times a week and keep them kissable with a good lip balm.  You can exfoliate your lips with a tooth brush to remove dead skin cells.   Then apply lip balm to lips in morning and evening after you have cleansed and moisturized your face to keep your lips baby soft.

Spicing Up Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Grilled cheese sandwiches are the least cumbersome meal to prepare. Kids can even learn to prepare it themselves. The ones I used to make contained regular cheese and white bread with margarine to cook it. Here are a few ways to make that grilled cheese sandwich healthier for your little ones.

First of all you need to slim the cheese. Full fat cheeses are a thing of the past. A slice of fat free cheese melts just the same with fewer calories and fat. If American cheese is too boring, try a slice of Swiss or cheddar cheese. Monterey Jack is good on a sandwich, also. One slice of cheese is plenty, but if you are using the fat free kind, you could probably get by with two slices for a creamier sandwich.

Wellness , Herbs, and Other Natural Wonders

There is an old Chinese Proverb that reads:  “Taking medicine after one is sick is like digging a well after one becomes thirsty, it is too late.”

I relate this to the cold and flu bugs that seem to follow and attack so many during the winter season.

The design for mankind was and is not to be sick and in constant pain and the state of ongoing repair.

Nature provides many weapons to keep our immune systems strong and healthy.

Our immune system has one job and that is to protect the rest of our system from being sick.

Colds, flu, sinus, and allergies all attack weak immune systems.

What Happens When 3 Extraordinary Teachers from “the Secret” Come Together to Teach the Science of Getting Rich?

November 16, 2008 by Rebbekah

The Science of Getting Rich is a timeless classic written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles. It is a bold title for a book and suggests that getting rich is a predictable outcome if one can master the principles outlined in the book. Here is how Wallace D. Wattles puts it in his own words, “The ownership of money and property comes as a result of doing things in a certain way. Those who do things in this certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich. Those who do not do things in this certain way, no matter how hard they work or how able they are, remain poor. It is a natural law that like causes always produce like effects. Therefore, any man or woman who learns to do things in this certain way will infallibly get rich.”
