Featured Artist Reviewed: Bishop and Mulholland
Name of CD being Reviewed is: “Essays and Ear Candy”

There is only one way to describe the sound of Bishop & Mulholland. Techno or, to quote todays terminology, “Electro Soul”. Bishop & Mulholland is the brain child of one man named “Paul Dirks”. This is one of the most talented men of any music genre. And, if you think that you can pigeon hole him into just one way of creating his music? “NOT”!!! He has something for everyone who takes the time to listen to his new CD called Essays and Ear Candy: It’s a bit of “Pop”, It’s a bit of “Hip Hop”, It’s a bit of “Electro Slide”, It’s please give me that dance floor one more time Miss Donna Summer.

This musician, and great songwriter has captured the entire essence of a forgotten era of a musical movement, and turned it into a musical palate for your ears that stays in your head long after each song has finished playing. You will find that you keep repeating his material over, and over in your mind so much so, that you have to just keep talking yourself out of breaking into a long ago disco dance in the middle of Wal-Mart anywhere USA:

I’m not too sure if it is the way he so masterfully winds his synthesizing expertise throughout his entire project here. The songs on this CD will take the listener on a mental journey if you are among the baby boomers like some of us are. And, it is in that musical journey he takes you on that makes you wish you never had to come back. When I listen to “Essays and Ear Candy”, I am reminded of David Bowie, and Pink Floyd, and my comparison list could go on for a very long time here.

Paul Dirks truly has created himself one masterpiece here to be very proud of for many years to come. Paul also seems to be a very profound lyricist as well, and this is proven on his songs such as the number four track titled, “Babylon”. This song is short, and to the point. There is no guess work here as to what the author of this song is trying to say here. There is no grey areas on this tune whatsoever. However, what makes it so great is the music that Paul has woven in, and out of the words of the song itself. Therefore, the lyrics end up carrying the music instead of the music carrying such a short amount of lyrics.

Now his lyrics get to be even more profound on the number five track titled, “Thrill Of The Chase”. Anyone over the age of eighteen can relate to this self reflection song. Paul describes what the human mind comes to terms with about staying one step ahead of ourselves within. The “Chase”, ends up being yourself trying to stay that one formidable step ahead of yourself, and keep you from doing something that you probably will regret doing at some point in time.

I personally believe the most “Prolific Song” on this CD is track number seven titled; “Labour Of Love”. This song reaches down to the very depths of your soul, and stirs up every ounce of buried pain that lives within, but, we all try our best to keep in a dormant state because, we truly do not want to face that kind of pain. This song brings to surface all of the scars that have remained inside of each man or, woman who has had to take anothers life in the act of “War”. I don’t believe I have ever heard another more honest, and heartfelt song before in all of my forty years in this music industry. “Labour Of Love”, should be the anthem song for all nations that have had to go to war, and fight just so you; my readers, and I, can be here on this New Years Eve so, we too can say that none of our loved ones died in vain. They all died in a “Labour Of Love” for all of their families to have freedom as we all know it today:

I want to thank Mr. Paul Dirks for allowing me to review his CD on this my last CD Review of my very long career in doing this as part of my job. However, as of tonight at 11:59 pm Eastern Time, I, Mz Mona am putting down my CD Journalists Pen as this part of my life has now run it’s course. I hope all of you will read my last CD Review of Paul Dirks Project called “Essays and Ear Candy”.

I want to thank all of my readers for sticking with me throughout my journey in the musical CD writing process, and for never letting me down by not reading those reviews, and being so kind to me over the years. I am thankful to all of you for allowing me to be a part of your online lives as well these last sixteen years. The new way of the computer sure did make it much easier for us old radio journalists in the end. :) I pray our God will continue to bless all of you, and your families as well. I also want to wish each of you the happiest of new years in this coming 2009 year of change: So, I will sign off one last time here at MzMona’s CD Review Roundup by saying that “Myspace” readers still rock, and you beat the socks off of all other online sites that have followed my industry career. Till we meet again; I just want to say “I love you” to each of you as my very own myspace family:

I do want to remind each of you that I will still be doing some great artists cd reviews as a bonus section for my new friend Rebbekah White here on Heal Yourself Magazine. I have agreed to come aboard as the Official Entertainment Editor for her Entertainment Division she has now included in her Ezine. She has taken up the torch in my stead to help get good music of all genres’ out to the masses through her online voice of the ever so wonderful, and great freedom of speech better known as the “Print Media”. I wish to thank her myself for keeping all of this alive, and well for all of the unknown artists here on myspace who would not have an outlet for getting a professional cd review done, and made available to the reading public. So, all of us in this music industry owe her a debt of gratitude for supporting my efforts after all these years to see that your music has a chance to be heard, and who knows? Maybe in the future, Bekah, and I just might start our own live radio show together so, we can showcase your cd live along with an on air interview to let the buying public know you are alive here in the musical world, and deserve to be heard. God bless each of you artists out there, and I beg of you to just keep pushing, and growing as a band, and as individual artists as well. The wealth of talent on myspace alone is absolutely staggering to me, and it should be to the rest of the computer world.

Thank You Till My Next Bonus CD Review:

The Autism Gene-CBS News Video

Being a mom with 2 autistic boys and actively involved in finding a cure for autism or even a link to what causes autism so I can help my boys it is exciting to hear news about a possible link in genes that may be able to help families.

It has always been a  concern of mine for my boys and their future families. We have 3 sons and 2 of them have been diagnosed with Autism. I wonder everyday why 2 of my sons have autism and why my other son doesn’t? What caused it? I hear about vaccines causing it? Diets causing it? Yet it can all be very confusing…and intimidating…

Now here is the video from CBS News seen on The Early Show on Wednesday April 29, 2009:

“One of the most heartbreaking aspects of autism is that no one really knows why it happens. New research offers some important clues for families struggling with autism. Dr. Jennifer Ashton reports.”

Monsters Vs Aliens Movie Review

April 28, 2009 by Rebbekah

What About B.O.B.?
by Betty Jo Tucker

Sometimes one performance in a film almost saves it. For example, a gelatinous blue creature, voiced to amusing perfection by Seth Rogen, manages to perk things up whenever it appears in Monsters Vs. Aliens. Unfortunately, the rest of this animated movie feels like a been-there-done-that experience, one the Bard might describe as “full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing.”

I know what you’re thinking: at least the children will enjoy Monsters Vs. Aliens. Sorry to disappoint you, but the youngsters at the screening I attended seemed quite restless, plus I heard only a few laughs during the film’s entire running time. And those laughs were evoked by Rogen’s character, B.O.B.

So let’s talk about B.O.B. He belongs to a formerly secret group of monsters who are called upon by the U.S. Government for help in defeating an alien plan to take over our planet. His colleagues are Ginormica (voiced by Reese Witherspoon), Dr. Cockroach (voiced by Hugh Laurie), The Missing Link (voiced by Will Arnet), and a huge insect. B.O.B. may not be the smartest monster here, but he’s definitely the most interesting.  He’s at his best during conflict with a giant robot. “I’ve got him!” he shouts while stuck to the bottom of the robot’s foot before being trampled on. Or when he falls for a quivering bowl of jello. B.O.B. sports just one eye in the middle of his upper body, but he makes up for that with the ability to absorb almost everything and everyone in his way. No doubt about it, B.O.B. is an original character, and he deserves a movie of his own.

For me, the other characters in Monsters Vs. Aliens fail to measure up to B.O.B. Ginormica, an ordinary woman who has been changed into a giant version of herself, looks fantastic – but her sequences are too repetitive. Dr. Cockroach and The Missing Link also lack B.O.B.’s appeal. The villainous alien Galaxhar (voiced by Rainn Wilson) and his clones may be intriguing to watch, but they pale in significance to similar presentations in the Star Wars franchise. Surprisingly, the usually hilarious Stephen Colbert comes across as rather dull in his voicing of a stupid U.S. President. However, Kiefer Sutherland offers a fine voice turn – one in which he’s barely recognizable – as the gung-ho army man supervising our monsters.

After seeing Monsters Vs. Aliens, I can hardly wait to view my favorite animated monster movie again. Can you guess which one it is? If you picked Monsters, Inc. — you’re absolutely right!

DISCLAIMER:  I saw the 2-D version of this movie.

(Released by DreamWorks and rated “PG” for sci-fi action, some crude humor and mild language.)

80% of the game is between your ears

April 28, 2009 by Rebbekah

by Aaron Solly

“80% of the game is between your ears”, is what my senior high school basketball coach would say to us at our practices.  He would say it at the beginning of practice as he would walk around the center gym where the entire team was standing in a circle, stretching.

“80% of the game is between your ears”, he would repeat out loud.  A lot of us were rolling our as we were stretching.  This phrase meant nothing to us at that age.  We all wanted to finish stretching and start practice so we could play basketball.  In my mind, my ears and anything between them had nothing to do with playing basketball.

What was interesting was what happened to me before most of the games we played.  I had butterflies in my stomach the size of a 747.  I had a hard time keeping my nerves down before games, which affected my playing.  I spent more time worrying about making a mistake then focusing on playing my best.  Guess what happened?  I made a lot of mistakes.

My mind concentrated on things such as what people would think of me if I messed up.  I felt like every mistake would be seen by everyone and it would be never forgotten. It would be recorded and referred back to for years into the future.

I think back to what was going on in my mind when I was in high school and it seems so silly to me.  Why would I put myself through this?  I was a smart, athletic and a confident person.  I didn’t need to buy into all those negative thoughts.

Throughout high school and into University, I had struggled with confidence in myself.  I had all these thoughts in my head of what people thought of me.  The majority of them were negative and untrue.  Whenever I made a mistake, that mistake was replayed over and over in my head until I was convinced everyone was laughing at me or constantly talking about me.

One day while I was doing some writing in my dorm at University, I had a moment of clarity.  I finally clued into what “80% of the game is between your ears” meant.  I think it took me so long because this phrase in high school was a silly thing my coach said to us at basketball practice.  I never consciously thought of what it actually meant.

My perspective of this phrase came full circle and I realized how this simple phrase was applicable to so many aspects of my life outside of basketball.  I realized that my worries back in high school of making a mistake during a basketball game were directly related to the mental side of the game.  Our coach gave us the insight into this; however, we didn’t receive additional tools on how to strengthen our skills in this area.

My moment of clarity helped open my mind to the fact that these thoughts in my head were in my control.  Basketball wasn’t the only thing that involved that thing between my ears; life in general does as well.  I began to learn more about strengthening my mind to control the negative thoughts that were interfering with my ability to have self-confidence and a strong belief in myself.

I believe that 100% of what we want to achieve in life is attainable by using that thing between our ears, our mind.  I want to share what I have learned with others who need help in this area.

You may have experienced or are still experiencing negative thoughts, low self-esteem, low self-confidence and/or self-doubt.

You can achieve what ever it is you want in life.  You can be confident and remain confident.  You can believe in yourself all the time.  And, you don’t need to worry about what others think of you.

In order to become better at using that thing between your ears to achieve what you want in life, you are going to have to work at it.

I have some questions to complete based on what you have read in this article to start getting the thing between your ears working for you.  I encourage you to open a blank email, word processing document or get out an old fashion piece of paper and spend some time on your own personal development.

Now let’s strengthen that thing between your ears.

  1. What does “80% of the game is between your ears” mean to you?
  2. Based on your life, what would you replace “the game” with to relate this phrase to your own life? (ex. school, work, or life)
  3. What are the three keys things that you learned from reading this article?
  4. How can you use these three key things to help you in your own life?
  5. What action will you take to start impacting your answers to the previous questions?
  6. When will you take this action?
  7. How will you hold yourself accountable to take permanent action?

Proper Posture and the Elimination of Chronic Muscle and Joint Pain

April 28, 2009 by Rebbekah

Chronic neck, hip, knee and back pain are a problem of pandemic proportions that according to the American Pain Foundation is affecting more American than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. Statistics reveal that millions of people continue to spend billions on drugs and treatments to free themselves from their chronic pain with little to no relief.
——-
**(Hyperlink “affecting more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined” Link: http://www.painfoundation.org/page.asp?file=Newsroom/PainFacts.htm).
——-

Given the sheer numbers still in pain it is clear that the traditional treatments available are not working. And now with the American Pain Society and the American Academy of Pain Medicine last month issuing guidelines to clinicians about the use of opioid pain medications due to widespread concern about “opioid abuse and addiction”, and the FDA informing opioid manufacturers that certain drugs now require “Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies” to ensure that the benefits of the drugs continue to outweigh the risks, we see that drugs are often creating more problems than they are solving.

——-

Clearly, this tells us that the time has come to look for alternative and effective non-drug solutions to treat chronic pain. Unfortunately, the problem with many current treatments for chronic pain is that they do not address the source of the pain.  As with anything in life, without addressing the source of a problem, it is impossible to find a real and permanent solution.  Without finding and addressing the source of the pain – one must continually manage it.

Fortunately for chronic muscle and joint pain sufferers, a previously unknown source of chronic musculoskeletal pain has been discovered and a therapy had been developed to treat it. Knowing the source, a solution to eliminating rather than managing the pain is now possible. And its location may surprise you – it’s in your feet.
——-
**(Hyperlink “a previously unknown source of chronic musculoskeletal pain”

——-

There exists a neural-mechanical pathway which connects the bottom of your feet to your brain.  Signals are sent from the feet to the brain and they tell the brain the position of the body relative to its surroundings. The brain uses this information to adjust the body’s posture.

There are two inherited foot structures which cause the foot to twist when you stand or walk.  This foot twist creates distorted signals being sent to the brain. The brain responds by creating a distortion in the posture.  Bad posture then leads to increased stress and strain on the joints and muscles. The end result is inflammation and pain. If the source of the bad posture (the inherited foot structure) is not addressed and handled, the pain becomes chronic.

Hence, the key to returning to wellness is to correct the distorted signals generated from a twisting foot.  This is accomplished by placing specific stimulation underneath the feet, which sends corrected signals to the brain.  The brain responds by automatically adjusting the posture into a more correct alignment. When the posture is improved, the stress and strain on the muscles is considerable reduced.  Though it may take time for the body to completely heal, the result of correcting the posture is an instantaneous relief of pain.

We know that some current therapies have tried to address bad posture, such as chiropractic or physiotherapy.  But because these treatments only adjust the body’s position temporarily – at some point after, the body returns to its original bad posture and inevitably the pain returns.

If you have one of these two inherited foot structures that create bad posture and the resulting chronic musculoskeletal pain, permanent relief can be accomplished naturally, without drugs, by addressing this common source of pain that originates in your feet.

About the author:

Prof/Dr Brian A. Rothbart is an internationally recognized expert on the elimination of chronic musculoskeletal pain and author of the book, Forever Free From Chronic Pain.  After 40 years of research and clinical practice, as well as his own experience with chronic pain, he discovered a previously unknown source of chronic musculoskeletal pain and a treatment to eliminate it without the use of drugs or surgery. For more information on these foot structures and his therapy, go to Professor Rothbart’s patient website at: www.rothbartsite.com.

Product Review-Bright Wing Essences

April 24, 2009 by Rebbekah

I have talked about it many times on Heal Yourself Talk Radio-depression. How I have dealt with it over the years since I was 16 and how I can go months without having an “episode” but this week I am so glad for a product called “Illumine” Formula from Bright Wing Essences.

This formula when you add a few drops to your drink, in my case I used water, helps to relieve depression symptoms. The symptoms did not all go away at once but when I used it over a few days I did notice a difference in how I faced those situations I was better able to deal in a calm way and I felt a lightness in my step and in my attitude as well :) all a factor in dealing with depression.

One of the other products I reviewed is called Blue Eagle Invocation™ Liquid Smudge this one caught my attention when owner Nancy Boyd sent me a list of products to review. At the time I was not sure why I was so drawn to this product, but now I realize my soul was saying I needed to use this product.  You know always listen to your intuition :)

Our house has been a house that holds on to negative energy, rather there is a lot of tension in our house or a lot of energy still from when my mother in law died here 4 years ago…I do not know. All I know is some days I feel a heaviness in my house that bares down on not only myself  but my family as well. The heaviness can be quite scary because you are not always sure what it is you are feeling, I have over the years learned that all energy stays in a house and that it needs to be cleared out every few months.

The Blue Eagle Invocation™ Liquid Smudge helps to dispel negative energy in and around your space. It also helps to clean the air, this one I couldn’t wait to use. One spray from the bottle and the air smells clean and fresh. Your mind opens up and your thoughts clear.  I found whenever I was stuck on a project or couldn’t move past a thought one spray in my office really cleared up my thoughts and I felt like I was awake.  A wide open awakeness. It is almost hard to explain, the clarity that comes from this product. Plus the heaviness from the negative energies left behind from family members went away…using this spray helps to dispel those negative energy and feelings almost immediatly.

All in all I am excited to be able to do more reviews on Bright Wing Essences. Once a month I will be reviewing a product from Bright Wing Essences line of Flower Essences.

Before I go I want to leave you with a better description of each product and where you can find them. But before I do that I want to say these products deserve a 5 star rating!

Some people will say I am off my rocker how can a simple spray or a drop of flower essence really change how you feel about your life? Well all I can say is if you haven’t tried it don’t knock it yet…God put on our earth everything we need to heal our lives inside and out.

Just be sure you talk to your doctor or to a professional before using any herbs, flower essences or the likes. Herbs are powerful though many people do not think they are, so be sure you talk to a professional before making changes to your health.
