Cancer - Turn It On or Turn It Off

America has one of the highest cancer rates in the world, and cancer is the most dreaded disease in our society. Once rare, affecting less than one in a thousand, by 1900 cancer affected 30 in a thousand. Today almost 500 in a thousand will develop cancer in their lifetimes. The situation has become so bad that almost all Americans over the age of 50 have cancer! For example, it is known that after age 50, 40 percent of men have prostate cancer and 40 percent of women have breast cancer, and these are just two cancers. Cancer is also increasing among children and, after accidents, it is their biggest killer. We need to teach people how to prevent and reverse this tragic disease
Unfortunately, modern medicine is of no help. Since 1971, when President Nixon declared “war” on cancer, we have thrown 200 billion dollars at cancer research. What has this money bought us? More cancer! The public has yet to grasp the colossal gap between how much money the cancer industry is spending, and the paltry results it is achieving. Research is only part of the billion dollar-a-day cancer industry whose treatments with drugs, surgery and radiation are not only ineffective but dangerous. These conventional treatments do nothing to address what caused the cancer, and they suppress the immune system. Suppressed immunity allows cancer to grow and metastasize-modern medicine’s treatment of cancer promotes cancer!
Fortunately, we can protect ourselves. If you are over age 50, you are probably past preventing cancer, you already have it! Now you need to keep it under control. Don’t turn the cancer on, and if you already have active cancer, turn it off. Can this be done? Sure it can, and it is done every day by people who take charge of their health.
Last September, businessman Paul Orberson told his story on the Beyond Health radio show. Mr. Orberson had been diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer. Given only months to live, he read my book Never Be Sick Again-and put his cancer into remission. Fifteen years ago, my brother was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and given months to live. He, too, put his cancer into remission and is living a high-quality life. Medical school professor and author Dr. Lorraine Day reversed her highly-advanced breast cancer. There are countless such stories.
To prevent and reverse cancer, it helps to understand something about what causes and promotes cancer. The cancer process occurs in three stages: initiation, promotion and metastasis.
Initiation
Cancer begins with damaged genes. Initiation occurs when the DNA in a normal cell is damaged. If the DNA is not repaired before the cell divides to form a new cell, it results in a permanent genetic alteration in those new cells.
DNA can be damaged by a variety of means, including viruses, chronic infections, foreign bodies, nutrient deficiency, radiation and toxic chemicals. Numerous natural and manmade chemicals have been identified as carcinogenic. Upon exposure, these chemicals can, in a matter of minutes, cause potentially permanent damage to DNA. Such chemicals include many common household chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, food additives, fluoride and metals such as mercury and lead. We live in a sea of carcinogens and must learn how to avoid them. Radiation is carcinogenic; it damages DNA. This is why mammograms cause breast cancer, and why medical X-rays play a major role in our cancer epidemic.
Due to our exposure to carcinogenic chemicals and X-rays, most of our older population and many of our younger people have completed this initiation, and they have clusters of cancer cells throughout their bodies. This stage of cancer is not believed to be reversible. Given the right conditions, these cells will grow and then metastasize.
Preventing Initiation
DNA is being damaged and cancer is being initiated on a grand scale. Our best defense is to support DNA repair with good nutrition while avoiding carcinogenic chemicals and radiation. We have been irresponsibly exposed to radiation by our doctors and dentists. Decline routine X-rays. Allow only those that are absolutely necessary, and there are very few of those. We have been exposed to DNA-damaging viruses through vaccinations. Avoid vaccinations. Vaccine-induced, DNA-damaging viruses are showing up in a variety of cancers including lymph, lung, brain and bone. Avoid foods that have been heated to high temperatures, such as barbecued meat, as this causes formation of powerful carcinogens. Any food that has been blackened is dangerous, including toast. Avoid peanuts and corn products as these are often high in aflatoxins, which are potent carcinogens. Fluoride can inhibit DNA-repair enzymes. Avoid fluoridated water, toothpaste and processed foods. Beyond Health has approved a reverse osmosis system that effectively removes fluoride.
Defects in DNA repair will increase the risk of developing cancer after being exposed to X-rays and chemicals. Certain nutrients are known to support the DNA repair process. These include vitamins B3, B6, B12, and folate, zinc and L-carnitine. Most Americans are deficient in one or more of these nutrients. According to the USDA, 73 percent of Americans are deficient in zinc, and 40 percent are deficient in B12. To optimize DNA repair, eat a diet rich in fresh, organic vegetables and fruits, and take high-quality nutritional supplements. Everyone should, at the very least, be on a superior vitamin/mineral formula like Beyond Health Vit/Min Formula.
Promotion
The next step in the cancer process is promotion. This is when a small cluster of initiated cancer cells grows larger. These cells will not grow unless a precise group of conditions are met, allowing their growth-control mechanisms to be overridden.
Certain foods are known to promote tumor growth and spread. Sugar, excess omega-6 oils and excess animal protein all promote cancer. Cancer cells differ from normal cells in that they are totally dependent on sugar to produce energy. So raising the sugar content of the blood feeds cancer cells and helps them grow. In addition, increased blood insulin is a powerful promoter of tumor growth and spread.
Oils high in omega-6s such as corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut, soybean and canola oils are known to support cancer progression. Never eat these oils, or any of the thousands of products made with them, including baked goods and salad dressings.
Perhaps the most significant factor of all is animal protein and most especially dairy protein. Animal protein, beyond what can be used for growth and daily repairs, promotes cancer, and the average American eats ten times too much. Excess animal protein is able to turn cancer on in experimental animals 100 percent of the time! A high-protein diet increases estrogen, and excess estrogen is known to promote a number of cancers. Protein also acidifies the body and cancer thrives in an acid environment. Animal protein also contains large amounts of the amino acid methionine. Excess methionine is known to be a cancer promoter.
Preventing and Reversing Promotion
Cancer promotion can be reversed. By eliminating cancer promoters and maximizing cancer inhibitors, it is possible to turn cancer off! We know fresh fruits and vegetables are cancer inhibitors-eat lots of them. We know that sugar, omega-6 oils and animal protein promote cancer-avoid them. Omega-6 oils not only promote cancer, they also suppress the immune system. Eat plenty of omega-3 oils to offset this effect; supplement with flax and fish oils. Turn cancer off by avoiding animal protein; this means avoiding meat, eggs, dairy and fish except in very small quantities. Avoid fruit juices; they contain too much easily-absorbable sugar. Cancer is highly iron dependent. Avoid iron-rich foods such as red meat. Avoiding fluoride is also important as fluoride can increase tumor growth by 25 percent.
Fat soluble toxins bioaccumulate in the body. Their synergistic effect can be a powerful cancer promoter. The average person is accumulating hundreds of such chemicals, including pesticides, styrene, PCBs, dioxins, phthalates and fire retardants. The only reliable way to get rid of them is with regular saunas, which have become as necessary as regular exercise. (Beyond Health sells a sauna I researched and approved.)
Chronic stress substantially increases free radical formation and also severely depresses the immune system. Both promote cancer. Using stress-reducing techniques such as meditation are important.
Metastasis
The final stage of cancer is when it invades neighboring or distant tissues. Once again, a precise set of conditions must be met to allow this to happen. This stage of cancer causes death, but it too is reversible.
Preventing Metastasis
When cancer cells enter the blood stream and get transported to other locations, they become very vulnerable to attack by the immune system. Strong immunity is critical to prevention. Cancer cells require special enzymes to invade other tissues. Studies have found that inhibiting these enzymes stops the spread of the cancer. Plant flavonols found in fruits and vegetables, such as quercitin and luteolin, are known to interfere with these enzymes.
Nutrition
Eating lots of fruits and vegetables is probably the single most important thing you can do to prevent or reverse cancer. Evidence is overwhelming that common vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals interfere with the cancer process at every level. Many chemicals found in plant foods are capable of turning cancer cells back into normal cells. Certain flavonoids found in vegetables have been found to suppress and even to kill cancer cells. In fact, food and nutritional supplements have a far more powerful effect on cancer than chemotherapy.
Since almost all Americans are deficient in vitamins and minerals, supplements are necessary. Here is a list of the nutrients known to inhibit cancer: vitamins A, all the Bs, C, D, E, beta carotene, choline, selenium, acetyl L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, zinc, magnesium, flavonoids and omega-3 oils.
Nutrition improves immunity. Immune cells have a higher metabolic rate, and therefore, need more nutrients. Water soluble nutrients such as B vitamins and vitamin C are not stored well in the body and need constant replacement. When this does not happen, immunity is quickly affected. Whenever the immune system responds to a threat, billions of immune cells are needed quickly. These cells will be limited by the amount of nutrients available for their construction. Any vitamin or mineral deficiency will quickly be felt, impairing immunity. This is why the Beyond Health Life Essentials Comprehensive Kit, along with the Cancer Add-on Kit is a powerful anti-cancer regimen.
The bad news is that cancer is an out-of-control epidemic. The good news is that cancer is a complex disease requiring the successful completion of many steps to make it happen-this provides us with multiple opportunities for its prevention and reversal. The most powerful preventive and healing tools are fresh fruits and vegetables plus high quality supplements.

Irene in Time Movie Review

Dancing with My Father
by Betty Jo Tucker
Father-daughter dynamics receive a compelling exploration in Henry Jaglom’s Irene in Time. This touching film is blessed with an astonishing performance by Tanna Frederick as a woman obsessed by the memory of the good times she had with her father before he died. Frederick’s charismatic appeal reaches out from the screen, drawing us deeper into “Irene’s world” with each successive scene. She makes us laugh, cry, and care about this sensitive young lady who so desperately wants to recapture the feeling of being special and loved.
Jaglom (Hollywood Dreams), who wrote as well as directed Irene in Time, admits he’s harbored a longtime fascination with the complex relationship between fathers and daughters and the “profound effect that fathers seem to have on their daughters’ lives, often long after the fathers themselves were gone.” He points out that many important works of literature have dealt with this theme, including Charles Dickens’ Little Dorrit, William Shakespeare’s King Lear, and Sylvia Plath’s Daddy. Jaglom also acknowledges an intense interest in movies about how “Love beats Time ” - films like A Guy Named Joe, Portrait of Jenny and Stairway to Heaven. Irene in Time combines these two themes and - of course — is scheduled for release on Father’s Day weekend (2009).
The depth of feeling Irene (Frederick) still has for her father comes through in practically all of her conversations – whether with her women friends, her mother, her lovers, or even with perfect strangers. Some of the best sequences in this film involve revelations by women concerning how their fathers have influenced the way they relate to men and the problems or joys that brings them. Yes, it’s a “talky” movie, but with all the speeded-up camera work, car chases and overblown special effects blasting away at us in so many summer offerings right now, Irene in Time serves as a refreshing change of pace.
As much as Irene loved her father, she’s shocked at the secrets she finds out about him. Why does a chanteuse (Andrea Marcovicci) sing a song only Irene and her father knew about? What caused the break-up between her mother (Victoria Tennant) and her father? Will Irene be able to decipher the mysterious clues left by her dad? I was fascinated while watching Irene discover the answers to these questions.
Part of the charm of Irene in Time comes from the film’s lovely music. “When I hired Harriet Schock to write the music,” Jaglom reports, “telling her what Irene in Time was about, she — stunned — immediately said to me: ‘I married my father.’ And right there in my living room, she sat down at the piano and played a song for me that she had written, ‘I’m Dancing with My Father.’ Tanna sang it together with Harriet’s band in a club one night and suddenly all the pieces of what I was looking for seemed to fall into place.”
I love that song and the way it’s used in Jaglom’s film. Frederick (Hollywood Dreams) can certainly belt out a tune! She’s a terrific addition to Harriet Schock and her band in their scenes here. I also enjoyed the spirited “I’m Learning at Starbucks” number. And the wonderful Marcovicci (Someone To Love), whose cabaret shows play to sold-out audiences throughout the nation, casts a spell with her soulful rendition of “Forever in Time We’ll Be.”
Thank you, Henry Jaglom, Tanna Frederick, and everyone connected with Irene in Time. You’ve given us a truly memorable Father’s Day gift.

HERBS AND GOOD HEALTH ~ A pairing for summer foods~
Summer brings the need and the desire for light and easy foods.
Fresh fair from the garden is plentiful in most places, even if one doesn’t have a garden spot of their very own…we have the farmers markets, more and more main stream grocery markets are stocking fresh and local foods, and CSA farmers all across the country are growing for your good health.
When food is picked from the vine, plant, tree or stalk, it immediatly starts to lose nutritional value.
Again when it is packed in cold storage trucks for long hauls across country and some packed for shipments across the oceans, it loses even more nutritional value..
Then consider the fact that much is harvested long before it has reached the nutritional balance stage, so another loss.
By the time it gets to your dinner table it is nothing more than a shell of what the body needs to nourish and foster good health.
So…finding and opting for the freshest of foods is nothing short of a must if nutritional value is a priority.
Add herbs to a table set with fresh garden foods and your nutritional line up has just sky-rocketed.
CUCUMBERS~
Just look what you get when you eat 1 small cucumber- add to that a small tomato, some sweet onion, a few spinach leaves, chives, and a handful of oregano leaves…and you have a mighty powerful lunch .
A healthy pasta dish and dinner is served up in healthy fashion.
Add fresh local vegetables and herbs to your summer menu and rack up the rewards~

Saving “Green” on Natural Cleaning Products
June 25, 2009 by Rebbekah
Sometimes saving money can hurt the environment. Take your common household cleaners. These are items we all have in our cupboards, we can spend as much or as little as we want. We can find a different cleaner for every surface of our home. But what about all the chemicals that make up these “wonderful” cleaners. Some of these chemicals are carcinogenic, cancer causing, have been found to cause reproductive problems in males, and end up in our soil and water suppy and can NEVER be removed. No, not even at the waste water treatment plant! For more information on this subject, and to find out more facts please read the book “The Big Green Purse” byDiane MacEachern. I just read it and this book really taught me alot and opened my eyes to just how badly we are hurting our planet and ourselves.
But don’t worry… all is not lost! We can help our wallets, help our planet, and help ourselves with these simple, easy to make household cleaners. You do not need to buy anything special, all of the following recipes use common, househ0ld ingredients most of us already have. If you do have to buy something, I can guarantee you spend very little money. So let’s get started!
Window Cleaner
This is so simple your going to smack your forehead. All you need to use is rubbing alcohol. We all seem to have that ever present bottle in our medicine cabinet. Just pour a small amount on your reuseable rag or paper towel and wipe your surface. For stubborn stains ( like kid stains or drips on a glass coffee table, for example) just pour a little bit directly on the spot, let sit a few minutes and wipe off. Alcohol works just as good as window cleaner and does not leave streaks.
Baking Soda
Make a paste and use as “soft scrub” cleanser. Use on tub, tiles, sinks, counter tops. To make a paste pour a cup of baking soda in a reusable container with a lid, drip enough water to moisten and stir. This should be the consistency of toothpaste. Just use a rag or sponge and wipe on your surface, let sit about 30 seconds, scrub and wipe off. You will need to wipe off with a wet rag or sponge, just like you would commercial cleansers. Baking soda is a GREAT deordorizer also.
To eliminate odors from your drains: Pour a half a cup of baking soda down your drains, let sit 2 to 5 minutes, and follow with a sauce pan full of hot to boiling water.
For slightly slow sink/bathtub drains: pour a half of a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a half a cup of vinegar, use white vinegar, cover drain. Let sit approximately 3 to 5 minutes depending on clog. Then pour down a large sauce pan of boiling water. For really clogged drains, after you do the above steps, plunge the drain. This has worked with almost every stubborn drain I have had. I did have to buy a commercial drain cleaner one time for an extremely stubborn hair clog (my hair).
Fabric softener: pour a half a cup of white vinegar into your rinse water when you do laundry. Softens clothes and does not leave an odor. Will not damage clothing.
Laundry detergent: you can search the internet, use the search term : homemade laundry detergent. If your budget won’t allow you to buy an all natural laundry detergent, or if your local grocery store does not carry one, use a “free and clear” laundry soap.. No dyes or fragrances. The all natural laundry detergents are more expensive than regular brands, however I have used them for almost a year now and I can say that I use about half the amount of regular detergents. They also come in very pleasing scents and last longer because I use less. I typically use SeventhGeneration brand detergent or the store brand all natural version. I have severe skin allergies and have to be VERY careful what I use. There are many choices on the market now, so if your budget allows the extra expense (usually just a few extra dollars) try an all natural soap, you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

Feeling Depressed
June 20, 2009 by Rebbekah
Filed under Fighting Depression, True Life Stories
It’s been a long time since I have been open and honest with my readers. Today and actually for the past several weeks I have been fighting serious depression. I know most of it has to do with my husband being laid off, trying to cope with the day to day life challenges with two autistic children and trying to not fear the future and not choke with each new bill that comes in the mail.
This may come as a big surprise to many of my listeners and readers throughout the Heal Yourself Network but since I started the new section True Life stories I thought where better to post what I am going through and feeling.
Letting it all hang out…hopefully I won’t look back on this and wish I hadn’t posted all of this. You know they say not to give out to much of yourself when you have an online business but truthfully I started Heal Yourself Talk Radio which is now growing to a huge network of websites all about healing, to share my own experiences and to find others who are dealing with exactly what I am dealing with. Today I need to relate to others who are dealing with depression or feeling out of sorts and know exactly what I am going through right now.
I have been able to overcome many episodes of depression over the past few years, my trust in God and the universe and my never ending outlook of optimism on life has held together for me till today.
As I sit here at home wondering how we are going to go on, how we are going to keep what we have and wondering what God has in store for us has just placed me into a world of fear. I hate fear! I hate feeling out of control! I hate not knowing if what I am doing is right or wrong. It’s been a never ending battle since March of 2009 to keep the upbeat outlook. To keep that smile on my face for my kids, to tell my hubby everything will be ok, to tell myself everything will be ok…
I know many of your are thinking but you always have a smile on your face, you are always helping others and giving support this doesn’t sound like you…I know guess that is why I am writing this. I am a person just like you, I have my fears, I have my doubts and I really have second thoughts on what I should do with my life.
I love what I do, I love my kids, my husband, my parents, my family and my friends but sometimes it is all too much. This weekend I feel like the weight of the world is on me. I want to sit here and say “You will get through this like you have other things from the past or that God will provide or the universe will provide” I have made it this far on humor, love and trust but today it feels like well like the floor has dropped out on me.
I am tired of fighting, I am tired of worrying, I am tired of trusting only to be right back where I have been all my life. Living in fear! I have done everything the gurus tell you to do, the professionals tell you to do, I have released, let go, trusted, moved forward, worked hard and more. Yet today it all feels like for naught.
Ok, Ok I know…but what about all those HYTR shows you do that shares ways to be better, to live above fear…etc…I am here to tell you I am only human! I have the same fears you all do. I do my best but sometimes life just gets in your way, and you have to feel those feelings…today is that day for me.
I wish I could say everything was good here, I wish I could say I have no fear and that everything will work out. But lately it seems that I am making the wrong decisions, I am tired, I am confused and well I am starting to lose all faith and trust in what I do.
So now I am asking you for help.
What do you do to pull yourself out of a feeling of depression when you have done everything and it seems like nothing is working?
How do you keep going when all you want to do is hide in your room, under a blanket and let the world keep going past you?
Thanks for reading and your support.
I know this is just another path on my walk way but right now its a path I truly am tired of fighting through the brush and thorns….

UPDATE 8-1-09:
As with all life things are going better, I am doing good and I thank those who have responded to this post. I feel that there are times I need to get those thoughts out just to get them out, and I know from past experience at least with myself I like to know that others are struggling with what I am struggling with so I shared my dark moment above.
What helped me get out of this dark mood was many things, listening to past speakers, reading my affirmations, finding a quiet place and listening to my soul and not shoving down all those feelings that left me in such a place. I let myself cry and feel those emotions that were there right on the surface.
Please if you are feeling like I was before don’t be ashamed to cry, let out your hurt feelings, write it down-it doesn’t have to be such a public place but to write it in a journal and get them out of your head is a great start.
Join a community, like Heal Yourself Community-and talk to others in a safe enviroment

Going Green & reducing household expenses
June 11, 2009 by Rebbekah

Going Green not as hard as you might think
The hot buzz words these days are “Go Green” , “Save Money”, and “Frugality”. What most people do not realize is that these ways of life often go hand in hand. By being frugal and doing what you can to save money, you usually are also being kind to our environment.
When you reduce your household expenses you spend less money, which means buying less and that requires less merchandise to be made by manufacturers. If these manufacturers are not using some form of renewable technology to make these products and run their factories, said companies are emitting carbon dioxide and other pollutants into our air, water, and soil. These emissions cause natural habitats to vanish . For example fish and plant life cannot exist in water that is extremely polluted. These emissions can also cause health problems for humans. Some emissions are known carcinogens, or cancer causing. Emissions can also cause respiratory problems and skin diseases.
By using less of a product or by making your own cleaning products at home less of these products need to be made in a factory. This is very easy to do by using common household ingredients. Baking soda will clean sinks, counter tops, and bathtubs. Rubbing alcohol will clean glass and mirrors. These common ingredients are safe for you, your family, and your pets and are extremely inexpensive to buy.
Cooking from scratch at home has more benefits than just keeping more money in your bank account. If you buy products with little packaging you reduce the amount of trees being chopped down and not replaced. This increases the quality of our air, as trees produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. Recycle all the paper you do use to be reused to make new paper products, thereby further reducing our need for virgin wood material. Same goes with all your recyclable plastics. Cooking from scratch is also much more nutritious than eating convenience foods or eating in restaurants. You know what is in your food, you know how it is cooked and tastes better. If you have a special diet you can easily accommodate that at home.
Two very basic and easy ways to reduce your carbon footprint: turn off your lights and use energy efficient light bulbs. Yes, these light bulbs are more expensive to buy, but they last months longer than traditional bulbs, saving you money. They use less energy, which results in less energy needed to power your home and this saves emissions put out by our power plants. Make sure everyone turns off the lights when they leave the room or are doing something that does not require a light to be on, like watching television at night. Unplug appliances when not in use and you do not need them to be on at all times, like your microwave, coffee pot, and cell phone charger.
If everybody did one thing, however small that might be, to help reduce their carbon footprint, not only will it help save the environment it will save you money. Most people are cost conscious these days and that is a good thing. By watching how we spend our money we can slowly rebuild our economy, repair the damage done to the earth, and be more financially sound as individuals. If everybody works together, imagine the wonderful world we could create!

Never Insult a Dinosaur
by Betty Jo Tucker
When meeting a dinosaur, remember to treat the creature with common courtesy. By all means, avoid saying anything hinting at the small size of the huge reptile’s brain. Dr. Rick Marshall learns that crucial lesson and more in Land of the Lost. Portrayed hilariously by Will Ferrell, this disgraced scientist finds himself in a strange parallel universe after traveling through a space-time vortex. But he’s not alone. An admiring research assistant — played by Anna Friel — and a redneck survivalist — portrayed by Danny McBride — are also along for the wackiest adventure of their lives. It’s a silly movie with ridiculous costumes and sets that almost match those in Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space, one of the worst films ever made. And I loved it!
As usual, Ferrell (Blades of Glory) gets into his outlandish character with every fiber of his being. He gives Dr. Marshall just the right combination of self-importance and cluelessness. When he says things like “Remember to point your toes” while directing his posse as they swing from ropes to escape a dangerous situation, I couldn’t help bending over with laughter. I had the same reaction watching him sing “I Hope I Get It” (from A Chorus Line) as he tries to retrieve his time travel invention after discovering it in a nest of dinosaur eggs about to hatch. And his running battle with television’s Matt Lauer is absolutely hysterical.
Competition in the acting department comes from – believe it or not — Grumpy, a dinosaur who hates Dr. Marshall, and Chaka (Jorma Taccone), a monkey-man who joins the humans after they save him from execution by his peers. Grumpy seems very real indeed. We can see him think, re-act and rage at Dr. Marshall’s insults. Chaka is hard to take at first, but he grows on you. He’s especially appealing when he learns to belt out a rousing show tune. Friel (TV’s Pushing Daisies) and McBride (Tropic Thunder) are also fun to watch as their characters suffer through many humorous crises caused by the oblivious Dr. Marshall.
Will the intrepid time travelers ever find their way back home? It’s hard to care. Because they’re so funny in their new environment, we start thinking they belong there.
Directed by Brad Silberling (Moonlight Mile) and inspired by the 1970s TV series of the same name, Land of the Lost asks viewers to take off their thinking caps and put on their dunce hats. Comic rewards await for those who agree to do just that.
(Released by Universal Pictures and rated “PG-13″ for crude and sexual content and for language including a drug reference.)

Herbs For Tea~~from Soil to Sip~
Spring is the time for turning the soil, putting into action the dream plans made during the winter days of hebernation.
The time when sunshine warms the air and little green sprigs start to burst through the soil to greet the gardener and her many plans for the season.
Here at Sage Hill Farms there is always one more tiny bit of space to be cultivated, one more spot that needs that special touch, one more idea for an herbal tisane or recipe that is just pleading to be tried.
If one is at all tuned into the happenings and the status of the world around us, we have to know the link that is missing for many is simply ” a connection to something greater than self.” What better place to find that connection than in the garden…be it a large sprawling design and function, or a small space on a patio or porch that holds life and beauty from the soil.
One tiny plant from one tiny seed can bless us with many cups of warm and soothing tea or tisane.
Many hours of restful reflection on planting, caring, and harvesting our own creation.
Many meaningful conversations with a good friend or a total stranger of the why’s, and how to’s of our display…our garden…our herb garden.
Oh…and by the way, don’t forget to name your garden, give it that special recognition, it in turn will do the same for you.
My favorite herb during the early days of spring is the romantic Thyme.
Kipling wrote, ” wind-bit thyme that smells of dawn in Paradise.”
Thyme makes a delicious tasting and wonderfully medicinal tea for spring troubles such as: colds and allergies.
The delicate clove-like flavor of thyme complements almost any food, making it a perfect tea for meal time.
Thyme is very antiseptic and a great digestive aid.
A pot of Thyme Tea…
4 cups of boiling water
4 teaspoons of dried thyme leave (or) a handful of fresh sprigs.
Lemon, honey or stevia to taste.
Place thyme in the boiling water, cover and steep for 5 to 7 minutes…longer if you prefer it stronger.
Pour and add you speciality…
I trust you will have a beautiful experience in your own garden space this spring…and do share.

Entertainment Journalist/CD Reviews/Artist Interviews/Emce Live Concerts:

I hear elements of “Creed”. No. Wait. I hear a bit of “Darrius Rucker” from “Hootie, and the Blowfish”. Gosh Dang!!! I’m at a loss for words here! Unheard of for an Entertainment Journalist. However, I truly was at a loss when I first put “Ledbetter Heights” CD in my player. This group of musicians are the combination of all the great bands over the last fifteen years which in essence, has allowed them to come across with a wonderfully fresh, and unique style that can only be deemed their own. They have set the bar a notch higher for all those who dare to follow after them in the new rock genre of the twenty first century.
LBH is a band that will have you on your feet from the first note of their opening song, to the last note of their closing song during their concerts. As a music journalist I cover every genre of music. So, when I had the time to listen to all of the songs on their latest CD I was completely blown away with their real, honest, and soul wrenching lyrics that so flawlessly melded into their haunting guitar riffs on each song. As par for the coarse for most of us; when we buy a CD we always buy it for the one song that is getting the most radio airplay at the time. I can say with all honesty that is not the case with LBH’s project, and you certainly will not be disappointed with one single song on this CD. I don’t believe this band could perform a song badly even if they wanted to.
And, a perfect example of this being true to form for this band can be heard throughout track number five titled; “Strangers”. One can almost feel the total loss of self this young man is singing about. It’s as though; if by some chance he can find the salvation he is seeking through the looking glass of strangers. You believe he will find himself once again made whole by the reappearance of someone he lost so long ago. In all this structured chaos is a very moving song that touches the recesses of ones inner self to finally make their way back to whom they once were.
The next song I want to focus on here is track number eight titled; “17 Days”. The music alone in this song is more than enough to carry this song all the way through without one vocal being sung. Fortunately, the lyrics are just as powerful, and heart rendering to keep your ears glued to that song right up to the end, and leaves you wishing there were at least two or, three more verses left to be sung. From the opening riff of the guitar to the first word of the chorus you feel like you are the person in that song. LBH is certainly in tune with their audience when it comes to them being on the same playing field with everyone they are up on that stage singing for. It is my opinion only that all of us can identify with whatever demons lie buried deep within these awesome young entertainers, that has instilled some deep rooted fear that can only manifest itself through their music. I believe it is that musical fear that has allowed each of them to write such prolific lyrics that gives creedence to who they are as a band up on that stage.
And, finally, the last song on LBH’s CD I want to focus on is the number nine track titled; “Daybreak”. This song tells about the dilema we all find ourselves in from time to time. It is a trap we’ve set up for ourselves through our own sins, and lies until it’s too late, and we’ve finally run out of time. We can’t seem to find any redemption for our lonely souls, that we’ve willingly let our webs of deceipt open the door to that hell, we have lived a lifetime creating with a small glimmer of hope, that in the end, we can somehow escape ourselves. Alas, at daybreak we still wake up with the same person we went to bed with, and nothing has changed at all. We still arise believing that we can take anything the world has to throw at us. And, so we do my very fine young men, and so we do:
LBH has written one very fine story about love, life, loss, angst, and the fear of living in the unknown one day at a time. If I were still giving out stars on my CD Reviews; I would have to give LBH’s newest project a twelve indeed. Good job my friends. I hope to hear more from you in the future. Your band is a new star on the horizon, and I do believe that you will all continue to burn very brightly for a very long time to come.
To all of you who wants to buy this groups CD just go to their myspace page, and purchase it from there or, you can buy it directly from their own website as well. So, don’t miss out if you like some seriously great rock music.
Thank You , Until My Next Review:
