COMPONENTS OF CHANGE

Our ability to thrive during unexpected or mandated changes is related to two factors.

  • Our attitudes
  • Our responses

Fortunately, these are the two components of difficult situations that we can totally control. World War II captive Viktor Frankl grew as a person in spite of the horrors of Auschwitz because he reacted in a healthy manner. A psychiatrist who was forced into slave labor, Frankl later inspired the world with statements such as, “No one could control my attitude.” The rest of us often-

•  have desires and expectations concerning how life should be .
•  don’t trust the process of life.
•  drag the past into the present. We operate from a fear-based mentality.
•  fear the unknown simply because it’s different.
•  cling to the illusion of security (our known reality).
•  settle for what feels acceptable because we don’t perceive that something better is just out of sight.
•  don’t acknowledge our personal power. We forget we always have choices.
•  don’t stretch ourselves to meet our full potential.
•  expect losses but fail to recognize potential gains.
•  have forgotten that past unpleasant experiences have led to positive outcomes, including personal growth.
•  disapprove of change even though the characteristics of the new situation have not been totally unveiled. This is an effort to feel in control.

SORT IT OUT
  1. Think of a current challenge or a mandated change.

  2. Describe your related negative thoughts and perceptions.

  3. List your worst fears.

  4. Which of your fears will definitely come to pass?

  5. Which fears are perceived threats that may or may not actually occur?

  6. What additional information do you need so you can make rational decisions when dealing with your challenge?

  7. What is your next step to secure the information you need?

  8. Identify potential opportunities or benefits associated with each perceived threat.

  9. Make a list of people, events, or things for which you are grateful.

CHOOSE A PEACEFUL PATH

Contrary to western conditioning, accepting the “unacceptable” and surrendering to that over which you have no control is not defeat. It is evidence of self-respect. You are choosing to avoid unnecessary stress. You’ve made a decision to be open to the possibility that an unpleasant experience can lead to a positive outcome.

When you can’t change or control an unpleasant situation, discover the power and peace of mind that emerge from shifting your perspective. Accept the unacceptable, not because you feel defeated, but because you are choosing the only victory that is genuine-triumph over inner turmoil.

Ease your anxiety about modifications in your work life by making transitions in small increments when possible. Gradually incorporate simple new approaches into daily activities until you are comfortable enough to take larger steps into the future. Baby steps are often much more powerful. A single giant leap forward can cause you to recoil backward like a rubber band that has been stretched too far. Be patient with yourself because new behaviors are unfamiliar. Each small step will build courage to make necessary changes in lifestyle.

EASE THE LEARNING CURVE

Exploring new territory does not have to result in stress. If you will be working with a different program, learn one new thing about it every hour or day while you complete your old job. If you dislike your work and want to return to school to better your life, sign up for one course at a time. This will only commit you to about three to six hours a week. If you will be working with a different office team, meet with some of the members one-on-one instead of waiting to encounter the entire group at once.

  1. Outline one or more small transitions you can engage in to alleviate your anxiety about an impending change.
  2. Notice each time your comfort zone expands. Celebrate!

After you consistently use the multisensory techniques in this book to increase your flexibility and curiosity, you will become more comfortable taking larger leaps forward.

Stress Management: 2 Powerful Stress Busters

By Jeff Herring

The Never Ending Search for Humor

Humor heals.

That is the bottom line - humor heals.

When we brought our son home, I remember thinking “I’m supposed to take care of this little creature and I can’t even remember to take out my contacts at night!”

During one of the first diaper changes, he did what little boys do and aimed it right at his mom. She put up the palm of her hand to block it and then started pushing back the stream like Superman and the death-ray.

We laughed so hard we cried, and decided we might be able to do this after all.

Look for the humor, no matter how absurd, in any stressful situation.

Remember, if you can laugh about it, you can survive it, and even more!

The Power & Perspective of Detachment

Here’s a little stress buster experiment:

pinch the skin on the back of one hand until it’s mildly uncomfortable (please, don’t draw blood!). Now release it. Pinch it again, only this time pretend you are standing next to or above your self while watching yourself.

Does the pressure diminish or even go away?

In the same way, we can “step outside of” a stressful situation and not only reduce the stress, we can get two other benefits as well:

1. You can get a different perspective, which can then lead to………

2. Creating solutions that may not have previously occurred to you.

The Ugly Bug

Being a mom of two autistic children can have its challenges as well as its rewards. Today I am not here to talk about the challenges I am here to talk about the wonderful rewards of having a child of autism.

First a little history, my 14 year old was diagnosed with asperger’s syndrome in the fall of 2006 after many years of teachers and doctors assuming he was ADHD. Asperger’s Syndrome is the higher functioning aspect of autism.  With asperger’s syndrome the child is faced with many social issues, they do not read body language like you and I do.  Children who have asperger’s tend to read all the social clues we come to do by instinct the wrong way and not know the right way to respond.  My youngest son who is 6 years old was diagnosed with autism in the fall of 2008. Both of these areas of autism come with learning disability challenges as well.

But I digress, I am not here today to tell you all about autism or explain more about it, you can find that type of research online.  No I am here today to tell you about the wonderful things my children have taught me, which I would have otherwise missed out on.

Life's Lessons Can Be Learned From A Bug

Life's Lessons Can Be Learned From A Bug

When my oldest was in kindergarten we were running late for school, he had one of those mornings where he didn’t want to go to school, didn’t want to get out of bed that ended up turning into a huge battle to even get him to get dressed for the day. Mothers of autistic children will know that this is not the normal battle a mom has with a child who does not want to go to school, a battle that would chill even the most skilled veteran. Well we missed the bus and at that time we didn’t have a second car so I had to call my mother in law to take us to school.  I was rushing him from the parking lot into the school when all of a sudden he grabbed my hand and told me to stop.  I of course was upset and frazzled because we were already late for school, but he insisted that we stop to look at something he had found on the ground near the trees by the school building. He grabbed my hand and pulled me down till my face was near his face then he lightly grabbed my chin and directed it to the caterpillar he saw on the ground near a tree.  “Look,” he said “One day that ugly bug will become a beautiful butterfly and will be able to fly. One day I will fly too.”  Overcome with emotions I grabbed my son and hugged him. At that instant I realized that while others think of my son as “an ugly bug” he is actually a butterfly in the making, getting ready to grow his wings and fly off to do whatever it is he wants to do. They are dreamers, they are lovers and they enjoy and take in all the wonders of the world that are around us each and every day.  If only we would stop and look at the world the way they do, we would realize what a wonderful place this world really is and how much potential we all have.

There are many more stories of love that my children have taught me that far out way all the daily challenges of raising an autistic child.  My youngest love for me, while some days the demands can be hard to deal with, the constant attention he demands from me, no space to breathe for myself still on those days that I am feeling overwhelmed from the demand on me he will grab my face kiss it and tell me he loves me.  Their hugs right at that moment I need that little bit of a reminder that I am loved, their kisses, and their joy in seeing things that we normally miss.  All of these things are a reminder that just because they are “different” their differences are what make this world a new and joyous place on earth.  So instead of focusing on the daily challenges, mishaps and struggles focus instead on the wonderful things your child can teach you.  This message can be for any parent, not just parents of special needs children they are our future no matter what “challenges” they face.  They are a gift to us to help remind us of all the wonders that are in this world for us to enjoy.

STRESS RELIEF from ENERGY VAMPIRES

December 16, 2008 by Rebbekah
Filed under Self Help, Stress, stress relief

By Anna Maria Prezio, Ph.D.

Exercise, hot baths, deep breathing, walks in the park, fresh air, walks on the beach, eating healthy, no sugar, no caffeine, etc.  They all make sense.  They’re all good suggestions.  There is one more thing to consider. It’s another remedy that could help your stress level.

Consider this; you could be picking up on other people’s ‘vibes’.  In my work with clients as as feng shui consultant I talk about energy.  We are all composed of energy, and that each and every one of us emits our very own ‘force field’.  It’s also called Qi or Chi.  Our words and our thoughts are forms of energy.  When we suffer from stress, often it’s because of the pressure of negative thoughts that we may have or that we ‘pick-up’ from others. Our bodies become toxic from people, places and things.  This creates stagnant Chi or Sha Qi (a poison arrow or bad energy).  It becomes like dirt that can accumulate in, on and around the body.

There is an alternative useful solution and there are many names for it, but it’s most commonly called ‘energy cleansing’ or ‘energy clearing’.   It’s simply a visualization that you can do yourself on your own whenever you want to or you can have ‘practitioners’ who have mastered this technique and who can even do it remotely and tailored to your specific needs.  It’s most useful to do this at the end of the day.

Find a favorite comfortable spot to sit.  Make sure there are no interruptions like TV, phone, computer, loud noises, etc.  Some have meditation music they enjoy. Close your eyes.  Imagine that a golden shower of light is descending on you from the top of your head downward.  Visualize the cascading light moving down through all the parts of your body, cleaning any dark spots that may be there.  See the light pushing this dark negative energy out of your body and all the way down through the soles of your feet into the floor or ground.  Repeat the visualization of this golden light doing its clearing action until there is only bright white light left in your body.  Take deep breaths.  Open your eyes when you feel you have completely removed all the debris from your body.  Take a few minutes and enjoy the relaxation and serenity.  You will feel a peaceful calm.  You can repeat this on a regular basis or when you are feeling stressed.

It only takes minutes to give yourself the gift of clear energy.

Dealing With Difficult People - A Very Important Life Lesson For You!
By Judy Esmond

When dealing with difficult people remember what Walt Whitman (1819-1892) said: Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you and disputed passage with you?

WALT WAS RIGHT!

Well, Walt was absolutely right! It is in dealing with the difficult people that you come across in your life that you have learned some of your greatest lessons. Now you know at the time, these difficult people can be distressing, disruptive and downright destructive. But in many ways, just surviving the experience has certainly made you stronger.

When you deal with the difficult behavior of others it can teach you, amongst many things a very powerful lesson…

LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE

Dealing with the difficult behavior of people is never easy or pleasant. But you need to remember that you can learn an enormous amount from the experience. A negative can be turned into a positive when you ask yourself:

What can I learn from the experience?

What can I learn about myself?

What can I learn about my interaction with this person?

What can I learn about people in general?

By having a learning mindset, you will always gain and never really lose when dealing with these difficult people you come across in your life.

And there are more lessons and ideas for you to learn when you get instant access to my free downloadable book on Dealing with Difficult People: 17 Ways to Handle the Difficult Behavior of Other People by going to http://nodifficultpeople.com

Prosperity Consciousness or Bargain Consciousness?

November 24, 2008 by Rebbekah

by Marilyn Jenett-Copyright 2008

Just recently, A very good question was posted on the Feel Free to Prosper Network.

I thought this was an excellent subject to share with you as I have no doubt that with the current climate that has most people concerned, this subject is probably on the minds of many who desire to maintain a prosperity consciousness when outer appearances suggest the opposite.

The Question:

“I consider myself a good shopper: use coupons, wait for sales, buy generic, etc. But are these smart shopper “actions” sending a bad signal to my subconscious? After all, the message I want to send is “I can afford anything (at any price).” How about it, do we have to be as careful with our actions as we are with our words?”

My Answer:

Here are my thoughts relating to prosperity consciousness vs. bargain consciousness…

On the subject of sales and bargains, there is something magical that happens when you acquire a prosperity mindset.

Have I ever mentioned to you that one of the great perks of acquiring a prosperity consciousness is that savings and discounts of all kinds will follow YOU on the path. When we are connected to our Universal Source, suddenly it seems like the Universe becomes your personal shopper whose goal is to provide you with the best for your needs at the very best price. You no longer have to shop to seek the best prices - no comparison shopping, no bargain hunting. Discounts and savings seek you and appear before you magically as if you are the elite member of a private wholesale club. Except that the savings you attract are often far below wholesale!

This is not to be confused with a kind of “bargain” thinking that is based on lack and the consciousness and fear of not having enough. The spontaneous manifesting of savings - the real bargains - come when we accept prosperity as natural to us and know that the Universe is providing for all our needs. It’s a joyful experience. We really do feel guided. We attract bargains at the highest possible level. We are spontaneously led to the right place at the right time.

I recall a couple of my many experiences over the years of being guided specially in this way to ‘Universal’ size bargains. :-)

I have always loved beautiful and very fine quality handbags. I also love touches of leopard in my wardrobe and accessories (not real fur, of course).

Well, one year I walked into Nordstrom’s and found an absolutely gorgeous black leather and leopard handbag. It was extremely expensive looking, but I didn’t recognize the designer name. The attached tag showed the price of $135 - not at all unreasonable for such a beautiful bag. I had to have it. It was the only one in the department. I gave it to the saleswoman and she looked at the tag and told me she couldn’t sell it to me. She said this designer’s bags sold for at least $500-600 and this had to be mislabeled. Although the label was attached, she refused to sell it to me. She believed she was justified. The manager wouldn’t be in until the next day. We arranged for the saleswoman to put the bag on hold and have the manager call me that next day to give me the correct price.

The next day, the department manager called me, told me the bag was $600 or so, but that since there was an attached tag that read $135, she told me that by law (or store policy, I don’t remember which), she had to sell me the bag for the displayed price. She told me to come pick up my bag for $135. :-)

I still have that beautiful bag after many years and it still looks brand new. I have found that expensive bags do seem to stay new looking for years.

Another year I found an elegant Donna Karan Couture clutch handbag in a department store. It was $900 - way beyond the price I would choose to spend. But I had a “hunch” to ask the saleswoman if the bag might go on sale at some point. For some unknown reason, she looked over the bag very carefully and found an imperceptible teeny flaw hidden in a fold that no one would ever see. I certainly would not have found it. But she said that since it had that teeny flaw, she would be able to sell it to me at half price! Now remember, I never asked for this. She offered. Another beautiful bag I still have that receives many compliments.

One of my most striking experiences happened when I acquired a complete collection of Villory & Boch dinnerware a couple of years ago. I didn’t set out to buy a collection - I thought I would buy a few place settings of the gorgeous Plantation and Tropical Switch Collection, which I saw were on sale in the department catalogue that came in the mail. Well, when I called to order, the store didn’t have any. By “coincidence,” I found out that that particular pattern had just been discontinued. Without ever leaving my telephone, I was able to manifest the entire collection from various Bloomingdale’s and Villory & Boch stores around the nation. The retail cost of the whole collection: $7,000. The price I paid for everything: Under $1,500!! That included not only all the dinnerware (10 settings) and accent pieces and accessories, but all the bakeware and three different styles of flatware. And a few extra duplicate pieces I use as planters.

A couple of years ago I was shopping for some specific sleepwear items. I didn’t intend to buy anything else. But I was irresistibly drawn to the sale rack. On that rack were two Ralph Lauren pieces - top and bottom - in my favorite shade of red. They were the only two pieces, both my size and fit perfectly. They were marked down half price - $19.50 each - but I loved the outfit so much I would have paid full price. When the items were rung up at the register, the saleswoman informed me that they scanned at $6.52 each!!!!

I won’t get into the long details, but a major coup was when the Universe literally handed me my beautiful new car a few years ago - a Mercury Grand Marquis in ‘toreador’ red - and I was able to purchase it new for about $10,000 less than retail. I am the kind of person who needs a roomy, quiet, cushy, cruising ride - no sexy road cars for me. I love my car - I feel like I’m driving a mattress.

Do I look for bargains? No. Do I love a bargain? Yes!
And I want you to know that this prosperity principle works the same way for our business as well as personal life - and for everyday items - everything - not just for luxury items.

The Universe is my personal shopper :-)

Create the Foundation of a Fit, Healthy Body from Within

The Feel Free to Prosper Program was created by Marilyn Jenett and I was priviledged to be a participant of this program over a year ago and still today I follow Marilyn’s teachings for changing your mind-set, you can read my testimonial below.  The wording below is part taken from her website Feel Free to Prosper, to read more about the program please go to the Feel Free to Prosper site for all the details.

The Feel Free to Prosper I Create My Body Program is a unique lesson and mentoring experience that is based on a mental technique for losing weight that I discovered many years ago from a great New Thought teacher. I have used the technique over the years to maintain my own weight.

In 2005, I decided to conduct a formal test of the technique with a group of volunteer participants to prove the effectiveness of this method, which had not been revealed to the mainstream, for the purpose of potentially offering it as a Feel Free to Prosper program. Before I endorse a principle or technique to the public, I want to see enough results from the general public to support it.

The resulting testimonials from that “body prosperity challenge” showed me the value of the technique and this was supported by the results that continued to flow in from this program, which I subsequently created. You’ll find many of the testimonials below. I now offer YOU the opportunity to lose weight in a natural, effortless way – by gently shifting the subconscious dominant thought. You will no longer think of yourself as having to “lose weight.”

You are not required to change anything that you are doing at this time.  You are to merely apply the principles as instructed and let your subconscious mind do the rest. Any changes in your habits or routine would be inspired from the inside out…naturally…not from any will power or forced action. You can use the technique along with anything else you are currently doing with respect to your weight.

When I first approached Marilyn about her I Create My Body Program I was overweight and depressed. It was coming into summer and I so dreaded getting into that swimsuit for our annual 4th of July family get together. I had no motivation, didn’t even want to pop in another exercise video and try to lose the 15 pounds I wanted to lose in order to feel good for that gathering.

I signed up for Marilyn’s class and within a few days had talked my hubby into getting me a bike so that I could get off my chair and get moving. Marilyn suggested I do something I really love…I love to bike ride but had been putting off getting a new one for ages…well, with Marilyn’s suggestion I went out and got one.

Not only was I seeing a change in my body as the weeks went by but also a change in my hubby’s attention, the self confidence I was gaining back, and the way I felt after bike riding.

During that first month and a half I lost 10 pounds just by changing the way I thought about losing weight thanks to Marilyn’s program and support.

If you have struggled with the “not another diet program” blues, then this program is for YOU! It is not another one of those dreaded diets that make you feel like you are depriving yourself. This is a total body makeover from the inside out!

Thank you Marilyn

USE WORK AS A SHIELD FROM STRESS

By Doris Helge, Ph.D. © 2008

If you’re newly single, especially if the transition was a nasty surprise, make your job a soothing fortress that shields you from stress and negativity. Happiness at work will feed your need for peace and harmony when your personal life is painful and chaotic. Achieving joy on the job is easier than you may think . . .

I’ve been there, too. You’re trying to charge out of the house so you can slog through sluggish traffic and sneak into the office before anyone notices you’re late.

Your inner critic adores this little drama. An ugly voice that sounds like the teacher who told Albert Einstein that he’d never amount to anything screams, “You’re a disaster! Why didn’t you get up earlier?”

The Power of Positive Thinking

November 10, 2008 by Rebbekah

Although you can see that the glass is half-empty, you chose to see it in a positive way. It is still half-full, anyway. The absence of half of the volume of water didn’t even bother you. What mattered was that it still contains water. If this is how you answered the question above and how you justified your answer, then you have a positive way of thinking.

Positive thinking is a way of looking at the brighter side of life. Everything is good, beautiful, and light. There are no worries, problems, or fears. In short, all you see and believe in is, well, positive. I guess that’s already the most suitable word in describing this way of thinking, which is why it is the term being used.

This kind of thinking is very powerful in that if you think that you are going to pass an exam, you are going to pass; if you think that you’ll get noticed by your crush, you’ll get noticed; if you think you will get promoted at work, then you’ll get promoted. This is how powerful the mind is, particularly positive mind. Even the famous Clint Eastwood believes in this general truth that he quoted, “If you think it’s going to rain, it will.”

So, how does the power of positive thinking works? How can it create reality? Do we only have to think of positive things and then will it happen right away? That positive thinking really is powerful may be somehow hard to believe at first, that’s why we may ask certain questions like those above. Because the mind is working on the information you send it, positive thinking leads to positive reality. This is how it works. Yes, we do have to really think of positive things. But it doesn’t stop there.

Remember the ever-famous cliché “Do your best and God will do the rest”? You know, it’s true. Aside from believing in and having faith in something we want to happen, we have to do something about it. You can’t ace an exam just by sitting on the couch and watching TV days before taking it, can you?

Let us take into account again the computer as a metaphor of the human mind. The mind is like a computer, this time due to the fact that we can program it with certain functions and tasks. Sometimes, it even acts as our autopilot. For instance, we use it when we drive and talk on a mobile phone at the same time. Therefore, we can program it with whatever we want to happen.

Say, for example, you want to be attractive. Thus, you say to yourself “I can be beautiful, healthy and slim.” But for this positive thinking to work, you can’t just leave it at that. You still need to do something. You need the right self-programming: “I can be beautiful, healthy, and slim if… (a) I’ll take enough rest every night; (b) I’ll eat proper balance diet; (c) I’ll do exercises; (d) I’ll brush my teeth every after meal; etc.” And if all these thoughts sink into your system, you’ll see that they wouldn’t be far from happening.

Mind power implies will power. With positive thinking, one does not stop with I can or I am. There will always be an I will after it in which it will cause the realization of his aspirations.

Positive thinking is a powerful tool that helps us build the life we want. It can make us beautiful and smart. It can get us the dream job with the excellent salary we always dreamed of. It can help us find our one true love. But we have to use them properly and we have to continue working with them regularly - to the point where it becomes such a habit that we ought to say them all the time. Isn’t it better maintaining such thoughts than keeping worthless ideas inside our head – the stuff we keep thinking about but doesn’t really help us accomplish anything and, in many cases, may actually push us backwards?

We should also understand that some affirmations take some time to take effect. It really depends on where we are and what we want to accomplish. For example, if you’re unemployed yet want to be a millionaire, well, in reality, it will take quite some time. You have to get a job first, and from there, start making the big money and earn the millions you want. Successes usually not happen overnight. So the first step is to focus on how we can accomplish our goal. If we are on the right place, plus we possess the right attitude, then it won’t be too far.

The subconscious accepts whatever you pretend is real and will use it to create your outer reality.

The thoughts that you think, regarding those things that you want, set into motion the creation, and eventual fulfillment of that which you want.
