Tina Jo Stephens from Splendor in the Raw joins us again today to go into more detail about starting a raw diet and the benefits of the raw diet.
No you don’t have to eat raw chicken or raw beef, and you don’t have to go all vegan! Something I was truly happy to hear
I thought one of the things I would have to eat all the time is salads! Don’t get me wrong I love salads but for me living 36 yrs with eating pretty much whatever I want going to eating just vegetables and salads wasn’t my first idea of a good time
However over the past few weeks, especially with so many celebs dying unexpedatly like Michael Jackson and now Billy Mays it has got me to thinking that I need to revamp my diet. Granted I have been starting with baby steps the past few weeks, but this weekend and hearing about Michael Jackson and Billy Mays has made me renew my decision to help not only myself but my family revamp our diets.
I don’t know if diet played a role in Michael Jackson and Billy May’s death but it did bring back how fragile each and every one of our lives really is.
Tina Jo and I discuss the differences between raw diets, what types of products to use when you first start out with a raw diet, the best products that Tina Jo after 20+ years of preparing raw foods has found to be the best and much more in this 45 minute interview.
Please be sure to visit Tina Jo’s website http://www.splendorintheraw.com for more information or to email her questions.
Products that Tina Jo recommends for you to use when you first start out using a raw diet:

Excalibur 2900 Economy Series 9 Tray Food Dehydrator
As far as blenders Tina Jo recommends a higher end blender to use, I am currently looking at a couple that I hope to purchase in the next few weeks as well. While I have a dehydrator I have the circular one, which Tina Jo says is ok for certain foods but she does recommend having a dehydrator that is flat and square and she uses the Excalibur 2900 Economy Series 9 Tray Food Dehydrator.
I will give a report on how I like mine when I purchase it
For right now I will be juicing and using my current dehydrator till I have my garage sale
Please feel free to make comments below with questions, or tell us about how you implement a raw food diet in your household.
Be on the look out for recipes from Tina Jo on www.healyourselfmagazine.com in the upcoming weeks and my “reviews” on the recipes and whether they were a hit with my family or not

I had a fantastic time talking with Rebbekah about a subject that is near and dear to my heart. Raw Food! I’m blessed to be teaching and doing what I love the most - the powers of self-healing through food. My desire is to teach you, through eating living vegan foods, to become your own greatest doctor and to love your body and your own individual nature. My talk with Rebbekah was just the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much more to share! I offer advice on getting started, tools that are needed, cleansing for weight loss and maintenance, traveling and maintaining your new lifestyle, stocking your pantry, juicing, and everyone’s favorite, my amazing guilt-free dessert recipes! My website http://Splendorintheraw.com will be launched July 1st.
I’d love to know what your favorite comfort food is - that food you just can’t live without! Drop me a note and tell me what YOUR favorite comfort food is, along with any other questions you may have. I’ll answer as many questions as I can and choose 10 of the most popular comfort foods to make raw. Once I’m done with these recipes, I’ll send all ten of them out to everyone who sent in their favorite! Deal? Feel free to contact me at tinajo@splendorintheraw.com
I can’t wait to hear from you,
Chef Tina Jo
Excalibur has horizontal air flow versus the circular dehtdrators that have vertical air flow. Most believe that the horizontal air flow allows for more consistent drying acros the trays. Good luck.
Rae’s last blog post..Food, Inc. - The Movie - Become More of a Locavore and Eat a Raw Food Diet, Part 2
Wow! That was very informative! I’ve been toying with the idea of going raw for awhile, but it seemed overwhelming. Tina Jo made it sound so wonderful - not easy, but not as impossible as I had thought. I realized that I can start out slow - and build up. Just small steps that add up to big ones. Thanks so much Rebbekah and Tina Jo!!
To our health!
